They provide two packs of thirty odd samples to craft a hit song from, the vox isn't very strong, so that won't help, not much there really and you can only use these samples, nowt else.

 

Er, i made a mistake, I've already crafted a minor hit from them, last night, needs honing into arragement, but it's all there already, but i doubt I'll enter it cos I know, from experience, the people involved will not be able or qualified to judge the quality of someones Art/music accurately, plus i'm after much bigger fish from them than the prize, also, if you could produce a hit, they'd own it,

It's true there isn't much there, I used the only couple of decent riffs and it takes some serious dicing up to make it into a hit, the vox needs slicing and dicing and tuning into shape and there is quite a strongish hook with one vox, but it needs the right backing to make it shine.

So some of you might also like to try to test yourself, see if you too can craft a minor hit, but you would have to recognise the quality of someone elses work and then mould their voice leading into your hit, can you?

It would also be fascinating, to hear how many hit versions could be made from the same samples, especially as there's not much to choose from, which also makes it pretty straightforward, would they be similar to mine, a different mixture of mine and others, nothing like mine.

Considering there's very few samples to choose from and no real variety, I was a tad cynical, not enough there to conjure up a hit I felt, but I gradually found my track was getting much better than i was expecting to be, but what qualifies someone to judge anothers work fairly und accurately, I know i can, that's why I can do what i can, if you can cut it, you can judge it... can you?

This also demonstrates AI could never produce a work as good as mine from these samples, easily proven, give AI the samples and ask for a hit.

Only, don't hold your breath eh.

Been delving into it cos mine's as good as finished so i might enter it even though I think there's no point, cos this guy, Hugel, (never heard of him) is judging it and has some experience, even so, his track with Guetta is pretty generic, so i doubt he'll dig my stuff, but for a few hours work, WTF.

Seems they're mostly by amateurs who are over mixing and under mastering their own tracks?

I don't know where folk got the idea that writer producers mix and then master their own tracks, they don't. Those hobbyists who think they can, and do so, are not doing their music any favours by mixing & mastering it themselves, period, no matter how many magical plug's you use.

 

Cracked it, it's a very decent HIT, this is live remember, as there's not enough vox to repeat the verse & chorus structure, gonna double take the vocal, did it in my head as i was working on that section, always do it like dat, so that gives me the variation and I'll take it out with a club structure, 3 min max, so gives me plenty of time to build cos i'm leaving the 'single' section very early.

I not interested in the prize, i have no need of plug ins, it's the exposure, plus I might get some remixes outta them, I assume 'is mate Guetta will give it a spin etc, so it's worth a shot if you think you can cut it.

I think i started dis songwriting malarky a tad arse about face, two more posts will finish this, then i'll show you how to put a whole track together, bangin drums first, then i'll give you a complete understanding of harmony coupled with how to, play/fumble about, on a keyboard, a kid of six could understand me. Midi only, no samples, well only Vox.



Only producing quality music is not luck, my man Calvin says it scientific, i knew that way before him.

I had a listen cos 100 or so have been uploaded they are mostly similar, not very strong, pretty basic stuff, drenched to the bone in plugins, all the dynamics crushed to death, an not one sounds anything like mine, and none are hits.

Wot attracted me was the exposure part of the prize i have no faith in Um and Ah men and that you can't play anthing in or use any other samples just those two packs, no mean feat if you can do it, with so little material, can you? Especially those opinionated luddites amongst us.

Comp finishes 9th June I only used the G# samples, can you turn only those sample into a hit, i very much doubt it, test yourselves, if not, why not?

This little test will prove in no uncertain terms that using only samples is no piece of cake, in fact it's more difficult for manifold reasons, try it, I dare you.

You will learn what your are capable of, because if you can't pull a few decent enough samples into a half decent track together, why is that? what do you lack, can you write something better?
