Hello, I have been using old libraries recently with Kontaky 5 portable and I am in shock on how fast the interface of K5 portable open in comparison with K8.
    It's almost instant.

    I am on cubase, windows.

Is there a logical explanation for that ?

Look for the recommended computer specification for Kontakt 5 when it was released in 2011, 14 years ago!

That has nothing to do with loading libraries speed. That should be the same or better, but Kontakt 7-8 absolutely doesn't work great, even with SSDs. Worst Kontakt version ever.

Kontakt 8.2 on the production machine opens in about 3-5 seconds. Personally I believe Kontakt 8 to be faster than than K5, K6, or K7. Running the FULL Kontakt 8.2 version here - no portable, no player-only...

I am on Mac and for me AU loads almost instant but VST3 needs like 20 seconds

Probably has something to do with how many libraries you have installed. If you have 100+, perhaps it has to perform some scan of the directories on first instance load.

It doesn't do that sort of check (or shouldn't). More illustrative than accurate, but when a library is installed Kotakt makes a reference. The reference just says I exist and I'm valid. The future checks happens during boot. It isn't looking through and verifying the library itself. After the first load the library is in the cache, cache contains the library images when you load kontakt and preview preset names/pathways (not the samples) You can delete the library and it'll still think it exists (unless you try to actually open it) because its checking the list of things you told it exist (installed). Not the thing itself. Uninstalling (correctly) removes the reference.

Your OS boots in a similar way. It isn't scanning every program to know it should be there, it keeps a bunch of cliff notes on you installing/uninstalling. Until you tell it otherwise or do an action that conflicts with its cliff notes, it's just checking the notes, not reading the book.

All that aside... didn't the old libraries function and load differently, needing some conversion process to work in newer versions? Not sure what that entails, but that could be your difference if all other things are the same.

Kontakt 8 on my new Mac studio with thunderbolt 5 NVME external drive (80 gbps), 2 second to open and 2 second for the biggest library.
