I have Logic Pro 9 installed... I want to switch to Logic Pro X... there are 7 different versions on Audioz... all of which seem to be updates... I'm wondering if i have to uninstall Logic Pro 9... I see plenty of people asking if they have to uninstall Logic Pro 10 versions for the 10.0.* updates (which everyone says you don't have to... just drag it into the app folder), but, I haven't found anyone that had Logic Pro 9 trying to install a version 10.0.* update...

So what do i do?? if I have to uninstall, do i have to delete a variety of different folders..? or what?

    thanks ya'll!! :mates:

i just dragged it in to see what would happen... launched it.. and i think i'm all good from here... THANK YzoU Audioz!!!!!!

however... my screen went black during the downloading of new content... then the screen came back... i logged in, then had to relaunch pro x.. ?????? what the hell was that about??.. is that normal

I think you can have LOGIC 9 + X installed on the same Mac machine. *yes*
I have Logic 9, Logic Express 8 + Garageband installed, all running fine!

I confirm, Logic Pro x is a separate App, you can delete Logic 9 if you want.

    cheers

I have 9 and installed X (I think it was 0.5, not the latest which is 0.7). No problems. But I did a clean Mac install in the meanwhile because I'm still fine with 9 for now (also using a Pro Tools skin). Not sure when I make the switch. Wasn't that impressed with X at first sight but should dig a bit deeper in it next time I guess. *yes*

They're indeed separate Apps. I've got LP9 and LPX on my mac. I still only use LP9, but have got Logic X installed. You can get it form Audioz. Just download it, install it, and wolah!

    ya'll are right...

I have both installed...but I have to say, that (although this is trivial) I do not like the look of Pro X's mixer... :( it looks "cheap"... specifically, the fader-cap and the pan knob... plus the little graphics above the pan-knob.. which I imagine can possibly be removed with a right-click on the channel-strips.

I definitely like the darker tone to the entire screen though, definitely more inspiring... *yes*

I guess I just wish I could get the channel strip itself (the fader and panning) to be the same as Logic 9.
but the new metering lights are way better.

I also have to say that, originally, I always thought Logic (v.9 and prior) looked shady... but it grew on me... I cant see the new one ever growing on me though... it reminds me of Digital Performer's default theme actually.

The best looking DAW that ever lived..??? definitely Pro Tools!! its beautiful *yes*

I'm not a fan of LPX either... Really don't like the look/layout of it.

I can't see myself moving from LP9 to it.

Although, there is a Logic Pro 9 skin/theme for Logic X...

I have used Logic since it was still an eMagic product.. (Also ProTools, Digital Performer, Ableton, and Reason) At first, I thought that LPX was like FCPX: prosumer/dumbed down version of a former great app.. But, I always investigate for myself..
I still rather hate FCPX, but I have come to appreciate LPX. The thing is, you have to dig in to it.. Everything is still there from LP9, such as The Environment, etc.. Also, it's highly configurable BUT comes
by default as a prosumer package with the just the basics enabled.. I would encourage Logic fans to give LPX a true spin! Drummer is very cool and also highly tweak able…
And, with 32 LIVES, I have most of my 32bit plugins from LP9 working fine..

checked out lp9 theme... they shouldnt of even called it that... i'm not sure what i'll use though.. i judt have to get use to using midi for drum creation.. been using ableton for past year almost, and enjoy arranging aufio files as opposed to dicking around with midi.. just prefer to see the waves and their duration / envelope along the timeline.. but i just cant really tune samples in logic the way i can in lives arrange view (with audio clips). i just have to switch back to midi drum arrsngement if working in logic. i do look forward to ultrabeat though.. : )

I'm probably the only person who prefer Logic Pro X over lp9. I think that LPX has the most beautiful GUI of all daw. The dark tone is nice and relaxing. Colors on leds and regions are brilliant. Not like Studio One bad look and bad clip colors.

The main reason why I prefer lpx over lp9 is probably the track stack wich is nice to use to organize busses and similar sounds like folder for studio one.

I use bus for both audio and instrument track. If you select audio tracks Logic doesn't allow summing track just track folder wich is different. Here is my tip to use summing bus also for audio track.
Create a new midi track option and create summing bus, now drag audio track you want in the new summing track and delete the blank instrument track created before.

I usually bus all my FXs like that in one big bus, all my drums in another one and so on. Helps me to keeps everything organized while have correct routings.

I also don't use lp9 because all graphic jobs are sluggish and freezing sometimes both on 10.9.0 and 10.10.0 I guess i'm not really lucky with it.
Also 32lives works like a charm For converting 32 bit plugins even on my old i3, not like that shitty jbridge wich is CPU hungry and crash all the time. I wish 32lives would make also a windows versions.

Actually people preferring 9 are in minority as I see it everywhere now, standard line is they first freaked out, but after spending time on it, now they couldn't even work with 9 anymore

I use Logic since the start and the only thing that I do not like about Logic X is that you can see less if you have a old monitor. But with my 58 4k monitor it is fantastic.
Each new version amazes me and first tought is always: oh they changed I like the confort of the things I know..
The fact is that the X version is the greater update yet and I love it without being blind...
Logic 9 was a pain in the ass for the ones that needed to upgrade the OS, big shit from Apple.
Cubase/Nuendo are the only like until now.
The last version is important with the integration of Alchemy...
The only shame is that Apple bought an Exs driven company and never updated Exs...

So we that don't like it or need it are blind, it's all personal really, whatever get's job done, like it did before :dunno:

Yeah, took a screenshot from 7skies video comparison, it seems that like 10 tracks are gone from arrangement view instantly and channel text real estate is compromised a little

that how it appears with a normal monitor (20') with no retina or 4k. At first i thought it was too big, but then after sometimes you get used to it and it's still ok and usable.

Here bussing my drums that i edited on another daw.

No, I mean that the human nature like new things only if it is comfortable. We must be open for new, put some work in learning and make a full comparison between the versions.
If the new tools compensate the loss of old one go foi it, if no stay with old.
I dedicatd só much work for learn in logic that the news are always expected for me.
As I said, different brains require different workflows ou DAWs.:bleh:

Nah man I'm with you! X is a good update. Plus the way you sort plugins only makes it worth it. To the OP: they are seperate apps, plus, you can find the downloadable content also in a installer somewhere, if you want to stay offline with your main rig.
