I was always curious how it could work that everybody is expected to upload more than download. It is a concept that doesn't make a lot of sense really.

 

Got notifications on for their Telegram, now I just need to be one of the few being fast enough to register :b

I contemplated buying an invite of one of these pretty shady looking sites, should have double checked and subbed to their chat way earlier.

They have been giving out free invite codes almost daily.

It doesn't make sense other than to the ones who have been there for 15+ years. That whole AZ thing is fixed in order to make new recruits pay. It's not rocket science, when monitoring the upload process peers are clearly being steered away from your torrents because you can watch them connect and then get dropped almost immediately. Even if you had the hottest torrent on the planet it would gain relatively nothing the way the process is set up there.

 

You just can't go hog wild the first few days (on free accounts). Couple ways trackers help you maintain ratio. Usually there is some freeleech content with more added at some interval. DL as much as you can and keep seeding it, regardless if its a torrent you actually want or one you think other people will want. For continually seeding you're rewarded with points/credits. There might be a daily/weekly cap on these points, but if your hitting it and download mostly freeleech content for a week you will likely never be out of points if you're not trying to dl every single torrent. You exchange the points for dl gb ratio... 3k points for 5gb... etc. Generally allowed to get down to .1 ratio without warning. So if you can download 50gb while only uploading 5gb, but you have 15k points because you kept 15 torrents seeding now you can buy another 15g to get your ratio a bit higher. Then repeat, just keep seeding. Soon enough you'll have the immediate shineys and more and more days will pile on with earning credits but not spending ratio. So if you get on a new tracker and get up to snuff on the credit rules its generally pretty easy to stay positive by end of week 1. By months end you're gonna have enough ratio/credits (if seeding like a proper gentleman/lady/whatnot) that running afoul of ratio is no longer an issue. --- Generically, anyway, that or some version is how private trackers often do it.

 

Yes, I'll agree that is the way it SHOULD work. That has not been my experience on AZ. It has not be the experience of many others as well. In fact its exactly the opposite. The only way to actually get anything out of AZ at all is to do a yearly subscription. But then you're basically paying for warez...

 

I should more explicitly note that I don't now nor ever have had a AZ account, which is why I kept saying generically. But thats a bummer to hear cause I was intending to finally make one. I'm ok with paying for month one. And here and there to help cover costs if I enjoy the service. Though I wouldn't be terribly interested in buying an annual sub for warez either. Maybe I'll just put off again a few more years.

 

Yeah except that's all completely false. Not their fault the connection sucks, you don't have your client properly setup, or you download niche torrents nobody wants. This year marks my 19th year of membership there, NEVER had a problem getting here just by leaving shit running on a plain old Spectrum home 1Gbps connection:


Shit in just the last couple of weeks the Kontakt Factory Library that was added to the tracker in 2012 just went out another 1.16 times. Thats another 20+GB added to my upload and I don't even use Kontakt heh.

Yeahp. Same B.S. line I got from the admin there.. The client was setup properly and the torrents being seeded were in fact in demand. There is a scam there. 19 years tells the tale. The old accounts are the only ones making anything happen there.

I do believe there is speed prejudice going on there among other things, which is completely bogus on so many levels. So what if your speed isn't 50 GBPS. One still should be able to gather credit even at a slower speed. Truth is there are so many other available avenues that are way easier to deal with and completely free that makes the AZ way of doing things just passé these days. Not knocking torrents at all - I think torrent is a great way to grab stuff, but their whole ratio bullshit is fucked up. About the only thing AZ is good for anymore is the searchable index of what has been released.

You could spam, upload a virus, or drive-by leech a ton of stuff uploading nothing back. Those are the old rules, and are the same on most private trackers. The last one is not as big of a deal anymore on many sites which have added a lower threshold of data downloaded before accounts are locked, suspended, banned, etc. Another is creating invites from and to yourself. I'm sure there are some others.

This is correct, and how many Bittorrent websites/trackers work. Faster uploaders are always favored, and Geographically Closer Peers may be favored too, due to lower latency and faster transfer rates. As it is a private site, they can set this however they see fit.

The person that gave you the invite is basically vouching for you that you will play along, follow the rules, and not cause any trouble for the site. If you hit and run, upload stuff against the rules/incorrectly, be a jackass on the forums, etc, the user that invited you also gets 'in trouble'. Could be anything from a suspension to outright banning, depends on the whole situation.

 

Leave the big torrents run, also pick elsewhere the same file(just make sure, it´s not repacked) and just download .torrent file and re-check(make sure no other trackers are included in sharing).
