one of my introductions to Ambient, circa 1970's ,2 of 10cc's finest made their own album, which was a total belly flop, but its still interesting to listen. to. supposedely a "concept album" about global warming and also a demo of the "GizmoTron" guitar gadget they invented.

 

Phil Hartman, before he became an actor and comedian, designed and produced album covers.




He also wrote Pee Wee Herman's 1st stage play, that became a special and eventually the Playhouse series, which he also wrote for.



By the way, he did the AJA album cover...

Virus - Locura

 

I don't know if I actually love the cover but I do love the album.

 

When I was in 4th grade I went with a kid from school named Lloyd and walked up the hill to Queens Boulevard to the movie theater to see the film. I'd never in my 9 year old life ever experienced anything as visually impactful as I did that day. The saturated colors seemed to physically push me back in my seat and it was very much like being on some sort of psychedelic journey. When it ended and the lights came on everything seemed brown, grey and just plain drab.

 

i own 2 copies of the lp for some reason. I used to really listen to it a good bit. Its difficult if you compare it to 10cc, but as work of its own it has an ambient quality that is soothing.

 

It was a great movie, supposedly the Beatles had very little to do with it, my understanding is it was mostly written and produced by a Dutch company. They very much captured the flavour of the Beatles, remarkably so. Of course the music helps tremendously, but the graphics were quite inspiring as well. I guess I need to hunt up a copy and rewatch it..

The album's title is a play on words, combining the name of the Mozart Italian-language opera Così fan tutte with the name of the Italian confection tutti-frutti (also the name of a Little Richard song). The album's cover art expands this into a visual pun, with a picture of a tea cozy (cosi), a fan, and a tutti-frutti dessert.
