Readability, clarity, color selection and sharpness are exemplary, even a translation into several languages is possible. There are even sound samples with the ever-popular SoundCloud. You can even post comments. The buttons even have a mouse effect, so you always know where you are.

Thanks buddy :), and the search system, with the 3 win mac and linux filters, and the little table for compatibility VST AU AXX for beginners what do you think? Do you think it's well done? Do you think this page is optimal? Is there anything missing?

There are 14 buttons to choose from, and if you use the site frequently, you should be able to navigate easily. It's quite logically structured. The A.Z. listing and search also serves its purpose. With so many music products, you have to set priorities so you don't drown in data overload. Well done...!

I was looking for the Korg - R3 earlier but couldn't find it.
I have free R3 soundbanks on my website!

    Korg - R3 = www.korg.com/de/products/synthesizers/r3/

Yes you’re right, there are 14 buttons, I should put them in alphabetical order.
Indeed I had not yet included the Korg R3, thank you this is an opportunity to put it. Thanks for your valuable advice as always.

I have my own growing hoard of VST goodies and want to catalog them in a database.

Wondering whether to use either a table in a word.doc, an excel table or a simple access style database?

The structure of columns would be:
Developer | Product | Type | Version | WWW Dev. | WWW Source ... erc.The 'Type' would be limited to similar used in KVRaudio.

    Fully searchable and sortable.

Ideally to inclue a graphic of the GUI of each product in the dB.

KVRaudio used to have a great big dB, sortable by Developer or Product Name but I cannot find it anymore -_-.

Are there any database boffins here who can whip up such a dB for me, in something like SQL, MS Access, OpenOffice Base ?

    My unprofessional but user-friendly database.
I took a screenshot of each VSTi in the DAW, labeled the image accordingly, and placed it in a folder:
    Example: My 32-bit VSTi - 2024 - 057 VSTi - Pictures (jBridge).

If you don't remember the name of a plugin, images are very helpful for finding something.

Hi, I understand your desire to create a personal database, it's a good project. That said, this thread is dedicated to Virtualsynthesizers.com - a site that aims to collect virtual alternatives to real instruments in an accessible way. If you want to start a discussion about your database, I invite you to create a dedicated thread. If I did the same thing the other way around, I doubt you'd appreciate it. ;)

    Hi everyone :)

Just to let you know that I've finished updating all the instruments pages in the “synthesizers” category with all the formats :)

I've also added a few new ones.

    Enjoy :)

Great idea, this could shape up to be an essential resource.
I didn't read all 6 pages, so if any of this has been said consider it a +1

    1) Consider scraping ratings from and/or linking to sites like Vintage Synth Explorer
    2) Support ratings with comments, and simple ratings without comment.

    3) Filtering by emulation type. VSTi, VST3i, Kontakt, freeware, etc.
Then filter the list of hardware synths that match.

    4) Option to save user preference for platform, emulation type.
If I'm on Windows and use VST, I'd like to be able to exclude entries that are Mac only. This also allows the platform information to be less prominent if/when there is more relevant info on the pages.

    5) Add tooltips with additional info when hovering over synth names to save constant clicking between home/synth pages.
    6) Homepage sorting options: a-z, z-a, random, year released, newly added emulations etc.
    7) Links to hardware manuals when available.

    8) Use a high-quality LLM with web/research functionality to basic write descriptions (e.g. Gemini 2.5, Claude 3.7, Grok3, DeepSeek R1, GPT-4o).
This could also include info on any emulations, well-known artists/songs used on, and aside from a description this could provide a decent set of external sources/links.

    9) Consider a wiki-style philosophy making user contributions easy.

This is Audiosex, not Gearsluts. The idea that a thread will stay on topic here is away with the faeries. This is an informal community where people have ordinary conversations that meander all over the place - Tangents are actually what make this place!

What would be preferable is that you don't dictate your personal rules on to other forum members, it's passive-aggressive and it makes you appear self-important. There's nothing in the rules here that says posts must be on topic.

Looking at your post history confirms it; in that you have not interacted with the community in any other thread and are only concerned with your own project. Which in itself is fine, I don't have a problem with that, but ordering people around on how to behave in a community you do not participate in is ever so slightly narcissistic.

The user @pixel13 previously asked all users here if they were interested in starting their own thread. After receiving a positive response, I think it's perfectly normal to stick to the topic of the thread's creator. When new users join and read the title, they rightfully expect answers or comments on the topic. By the way, off-topic posts are a violation of the rules and can be found in the forum rules.

I don't see an aggressive, self-satisfied, or narcissistic tone from pixel13, but rather someone who listens and works intently on their project, which represents great added value for all users worldwide.

I'm not in any way questioning the validity of the work. If I didn't personally find it of interest, I wouldn't even have been reading the thread in the first place.

Of course, it's perfectly "normal" to stick to the topic. It's also perfectly normal to have side discussions sparked by the topic. If a thread is completely derailed and taken over by another topic, there's perhaps cause for complaint, but displaying such AUTHORITY after one or two comments is petty and uncalled for in my opinion.

The usual outcome of additional topics is actually new dedicated threads. It has to be remembered that the forum, and thus the threads, belong to all the users. Pompously shouting other users down and telling them to "GET OFF MY THREAD WITH YOUR IRRELEVANT CHATTER" is as I described previously.

My only purpose on commenting on this is to point out to pixel13 that this is a public forum and not their own personal platform for them to police. There's no personal malice in that, I'd say, the same thing to a friend if I thought they were displaying delusions of grandeur. I've also absolutely no wish to derail this thread myself, mirror the aforementioned behaviour, nor cultivate any bad feeling, so I will leave it at that and not comment any further on it.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what I did wrong. What's wrong with the way I answer? And if there's nothing wrong with my way of answering, what's the point of your message apart from reminding us of what we already know?

I'm French and I don't speak English very well, so I use “deepl.com”. I hope I've understood your message correctly.
