I need the desk space, want to move my Korg PadKontrol off the desk and onto a snare drum stand.
    never purchased one before...

    any gotchas to watch for?

there's a lot of cheap 25$ stands available ebay/amazon etc.

Yamaha,DW etc 85 to a hundred bucks. Since I'm not going to be gigging with this thing. and the PadKontrol only weighs about a pound, I'm leaning towards the 25$ cheapie.

when you bark your shins on the expensive stands do they hurt less than the cheap ones?

    well any advice is welcomed.

I suspect that a el cheapo stand is going to be fine for you because you're not going to be moving it and wailing on it every night; it's going to live a relatively pampered existence and if it does fall apart you can still replace it a couple times for less than what a better one costs.

I couldn't give you any other recommendations other than DW9000 series hardware because it's all I ever use. I have two of these and they are solid as proverbial rocks. You can actually stand on one with your full body weight if you were so inclined. Probably not your cup of tea and a too pricey but still they are no less than the best snare stand out there as it goes with all DW9000 series hardware.

A different tack that I went with for pedals and power supply that I wanted conveniently at hand but not on either the floor or the desk, where the same as for you it seems that space is at a premium, was to get a metal music stand. It stands right behind the Polybrute and the platform raised and within easy reach. I was going to buy a second tier for the synth stand and fashion a plank to make a hard, flat surface. I'm glad that I thought of the music stand because it takes up a tiny bit of space and isn't underfoot.

I started with this laptop stand, which is usually on sale on amazon for 20$, wound up buying a couple of them.
I use one for my zoom r24, and one for my roland gs-10.

if I could clamp this to a snare stand, I think it would give a lot of flexibility in height an rotation as well as angle. so I think thats what I'm gonna try first..

    they are well made

Of course, you can enlarge your desk by screwing a larger wooden board onto it.
Or if there is space, supplement it with this very stable one.

Yes I have already clamped a larger piece of plywood on table to enlarge space. Need to reconfigure room this summer, when thanks to enjoying humid summers in the southern usa, indoor projects are a nice way to work indoors (entire usa was airconditioned in 1959 - we tow icebergs from Greenland and park them in the gulf with some nuclear powered fans blowing northward - thank you President Eisenhower) often have to wear mittens in August here.

I've a new table and top to be built out when the room is reconfigured which should double desk space currently in the basement sheltering the spiders. I use my guitars more than my drum machine (hope to improve that however) so for now, its better to have it off the desk. Maybe I need a powered ceiling lift that can drop it (with a spotlight) from the ceiling whenever I need to use it.

Just imagine the hum that motor could put into my recording chain....

Just configure the quantum motor of the lift to hum from either the past or the future and you are running silently in the present. You might however realize a little glitching of your DAW's transport though but the fellas at Stanford are working out a solution as we speak.

What are you using it for? A snare, a multipad, a practice pad, something else? Are you gigging with it? Will you be standing or sitting?
