This happens with a lot of things. There was a wave of divorces post early chatrooms AIM, MIRC, MSN, facebook etc... as well as things like Second Life. Its funny how we blame the tech. but the unhappiness and trauma are things the could be adressed so people dont lean on these dopamine providing better than reality tools as a way to escape their current situations.

Has me thinking about the cliché pretty woman story of the one guy in the strip club who is going to save the stripper. The human mind can easly be manipulated.

While I agree that we tend to blame a lot of things on tech and other things that are just a manifestation of an underlying issue, there's a big difference between a chatroom and a delusion-reinforcing machine. Would these people be messed up without them? Most likely yes. Are these things making them worse? Without a doubt. Can people (just people, without any technical additions) reinforce each others' delusions? Also yes.

It's not a clear-cut thing at all, but to me the key issue is that we don't understand the emergent mechanics of massive language models. The underlying tech for sure, anybody with some programming skills can whip up a basic model, see for instance this: Understanding LLMs from Scratch Using Middle School Math.

I think it's irresponsible to market LLMs outside certain specialist functions where we do know the training material and the parameters.

Fully agree on all the above.

On the LLM side. I use Googles notebookLM to help me understand long text message disagreements ive had. It becomes a interactive podcast where I can get a 3rd party perspective on a situation where my emotions were tied in deeply.

Yes its helpful, therapeutic, almost psychedelic but I try to not let it be my actual compass. We can get advice from anyone or even LLM but we gotta take it all with a grain of salt and apply the perspective thats being shown to us is just a perspective. We can average them all to find the truth that resonates.

There are people that can just smoke cigarettes or vape nicotine on the weekend or recreationaly take other drugs and not become completely dependent on them. Unfortunately in my perspective the western world at least has become such a shit-show that en mass psychologically people are freaking out and are seeking shelter from the storm of the insanity raining down from all directions. Using bots seems to surrogate as a drug of dependency to falsely quell their justified fears and serves as a kind of self medication to possibly reduce feelings of helplessness from the tsunami of events negativity shaping our lives such as constant surveillance, the failing of the monetary system and rash of disease such as cancers inflicting larger and larger swatches of the population.

Hello @curtified, who built the PC you're currently writing on? Who invented AI and who programs it?

    Humans!

Who pulls the plug when the robots get out of control?

    Humans!

Let me disagree with you... yes, there is a lot of what you called flotsam in the AI sphere,
but you can't measure everything with the same yardstick: platforms, models, programs are different
Now tell me, is a human screenwriter a creative person? Then why did Hollywood screenwriters go on strike against the use of AI by film studios?
This is a sad fact, and this is only the beginning...
Look at this dance, this is an image, generated by AI, dancing, strictly in time to the music:

Hello @Lois Lane , when the next generation realizes that AI and robots are only enslaving them, they can pick the right hammer from Amazon and then solve the problem the old-fashioned way. There's a new movement in London called "Blade Runner 2," which could become a role model. They're destroying public cameras.

If the drone that delivers the hammer to you from Amazon knows that you are going to destroy it's cousin with that weapon, do you believe that it is actually going to deliver it to you or instead drop in on your head when you go outside to inspect the empty Amazon box used as a decoy to lure you outside? And you do know that the their logo represents The Devil's penis coming to eventually rape you?

it still doesnt understand new problems and can solve it. This is really smartness.

Or understand concepts with the same names and understand both of them in the way it was defined.

It depends what you want to find out, I found with most of the stuff i want to understand, LM cant help me, so i only use them to gather an overview/ starting point.
And i always critical think, when I get an output from a LM.

Calling it AI is still a disgrace, its only linear algebra with neural networks and a big blop of input data.
I should still be called ML or something else, but AI just sounds super fancy, you aint winning investors with Linear Algebra as a name.

Nagoya University doctoral student Fusa Miyake made the discovery in 2012 while studying rings in the stump of a 1900-year-old Japanese cedar. One ring, in particular, drew her attention. Grown in the year 774–75 AD, it contained a 12% jump in radioactive carbon-14 (14C), about 20 times greater than ordinary fluctuations from cosmic radiation. Other teams confirmed the spike in wood from Germany, Russia, the United States, Finland, and New Zealand. Whatever happened, trees all over the world experienced it.

Most researchers think it was a solar storm—an extraordinary one. Often, we point to the Carrington Event of 1859 as the worst-case scenario for solar storms. The 774-75 AD storm was at least 10 times stronger; if it happened today, it would floor modern technology. Since Miyake’s initial discovery, she and others have confirmed five more examples (12,450 BC, 7176 BC, 5259 BC, 664-663 BC, 993 AD). Researchers call them “Miyake Events.”

Chicken or the egg. Did those ideas come from god? the muse? a higher consciousness? Are we just the thing that starts the snowball down the hill?

Will the patterns humans have discovered about the universe be 100X expanded on via tech like alpha fold did?

The algorithms that we have been subject too for the past decade via google searches, social media, netflix, etc. Even cable news shows us how to react to an opposing subject in a repetitive algorithmic way. This was well before this new wave of "AI" has been grabbing the wheel on our desires and navigating our compass without us even knowing it. Those old algos plus these new ones we are trusting via LLM responses, and agentic AI dependency will slowly psyop us into thinking were in control but they have been in control all along. Im not saying that as in im against it. Just more of a way to stay self aware to what exterior influences and conveniences are actually stearing your ship.

But it's not REAL AI. The junk they call "AI" simply responds to what it is given. It can never be more than the sum of that input. The terminology here calling out these algorithms as "AI" is simply wrong. The "training" is simply nothing more than either 1: human input for all the variety of scenarios for a given instance or 2: expose it to the open internet and allow the shit to stick. THIS isn't "AI".

Nope. I would if it was viable to do so. But, no...
