Welp, I had Kontakt working just fine. Kontakt 7.10 Hciso from the sister site was my cup of tea. Cruising right along. No issues. Then yesterday I decided to take Kontakt 8 for a little spin. Needless to say, I'm here asking for help because nothing seems to work the same anymore. Now my Kontakt 7 works but it's basically more or less all black until I drop a an nki on the browser. Then my libraries show up, but I can't see the headers for saving instruments, etc. Also the gui has shrunk to the smallest smallest iteration. Help please. Thanks.

That's what happens when you walk first at war front. Bullets can cross you easily! :suicide:

Just clean up your system from kontakt, and reinstall the last version that works

You are not wrong. However, I did all that and it's still an issue. What's strange is I can put my cursor over the black parts and the information shows up at the bottom letting me know it's over an actionable command. For example, file, save, open, etc. However, no amount of clicking makes anything happen beyond a. if i click on the "store"- it takes me to NI. I somehow don't ever recall that being there before. But whatever. Or if I click near the Kontakt it will alternate between mostly black screen and the much more useful Library view so I can at least see my libraries once I actually drag and drop an nki onto the window. But I cannot save anything. Ugh. Thanks.

Use an app called: "Find any file" FAF, it is in sanet. To clean hidden files too

Also check your drive permissions. I have 8 installed on M1 with Sonoma and didn't have that issue. I have 7.10.6

In general, when some VSTs and plugins release a new version, they come with some bugs and issues
We should keep this in mind : macOS sonoma 14.6 to 14.7 is not good for music production why ? i don't know.
Just i know, in my experience , sonoma 14.6 14.6.1 and 14.7 is not compatible with some vsts and plugins and also for my legit cubase pro 13
But intersting macOS 15 is working better than sonoma ...

I'm starting to wonder if it's because of an opencore update.

    Hi there
    It may be
I just reinstalled opencore since I wanted to upgrade from Monterrey to Sonoma on my 2015 MacBook Pro
iIt was working perfectly fine and as soon as I installed the OC in my macbook the black screen showed up. This happened with the same Kontat 8 HCiSO that I've installed before OC
I also have Sonoma on M1 Studio Max but no opencore and is working fine
I'll try erase my HD and reinstall Monterey without OC and see what happens

It's a result of trying to use OCLP to install Sonoma on a machine as old as yours (and my 2010 5,1 pro). Monterrey seems to be the most recent MacOS most OCLP users have better results with. I know you can, but these are the kinds of issues you can run into that most people do not want to deal with.

Check some of this out before you do a reinstall of Monterrey. Assuming you wanted to install Sonoma for some reason...

The black GUI issue in Kontakt 8 after installing macOS Sonoma on an unsupported Mac (via OpenCore Legacy Patcher) is a known graphics acceleration problem, especially on Intel Macs with older iGPUs (like Intel Iris or Iris Pro). Here's what's happening and how to possibly fix it:

    Cause
    • Your Mac likely lacks full Metal graphics acceleration after the Sonoma upgrade.

    • Kontakt (and many modern plugins) relies on GPU acceleration for rendering UIs.

    • Without proper post-install patching, Sonoma falls back to basic display drivers — causing blank plugin windows, sluggish UI, or crashes.
Fix: Reapply Post-Install Patches in OCLP
    1. Open OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

    2. Select “Post-Install Root Patch”.

    3. Click “Start Root Patching” and follow prompts.

    4. Restart your Mac after patching.
Make sure you’re running the latest version of OCLP — it receives frequent updates to fix GPU issues.

    ✅ Additional Checks
    • Confirm you're using OCLP 1.0.0 or newer (older versions had more Metal issues).

    • In OCLP settings before patching, enable the “Metal Graphics Acceleration” patch (if available for your model).

    • Do not use “Reduced Security” mode in Startup Security Utility unless required by a plugin.
    If It Still Doesn’t Work
    • Some older Intel GPUs (like Intel Iris 6100 in the 2015 13" MBP) are partially supported, and some apps may never render properly in Sonoma.

    • In that case, consider:
      • Downgrading to macOS Monterey where Kontakt 8 works as expected.

      • Using Kontakt in standalone mode to test if it's DAW-specific.

      • Trying the Rosetta 2 toggle (if you're on an Intel/Apple hybrid setup via patching — rare).
