I need the desk space, want to move my Korg PadKontrol off the desk and onto a snare drum stand.
    never purchased one before...

    any gotchas to watch for?

there's a lot of cheap 25$ stands available ebay/amazon etc.

Yamaha,DW etc 85 to a hundred bucks. Since I'm not going to be gigging with this thing. and the PadKontrol only weighs about a pound, I'm leaning towards the 25$ cheapie.

when you bark your shins on the expensive stands do they hurt less than the cheap ones?

    well any advice is welcomed.

I suspect that a el cheapo stand is going to be fine for you because you're not going to be moving it and wailing on it every night; it's going to live a relatively pampered existence and if it does fall apart you can still replace it a couple times for less than what a better one costs.

I couldn't give you any other recommendations other than DW9000 series hardware because it's all I ever use. I have two of these and they are solid as proverbial rocks. You can actually stand on one with your full body weight if you were so inclined. Probably not your cup of tea and a too pricey but still they are no less than the best snare stand out there as it goes with all DW9000 series hardware.

A different tack that I went with for pedals and power supply that I wanted conveniently at hand but not on either the floor or the desk, where the same as for you it seems that space is at a premium, was to get a metal music stand. It stands right behind the Polybrute and the platform raised and within easy reach. I was going to buy a second tier for the synth stand and fashion a plank to make a hard, flat surface. I'm glad that I thought of the music stand because it takes up a tiny bit of space and isn't underfoot.
