To date, Splice's acquisition of Spitfire Audio, announced on April 28, 2025, is the company's first known public purchase. This transaction, valued at approximately $50 million, marks a strategic move by Splice to strengthen its presence in the artificial intelligence-assisted music creation marketplace .SYNTH ANATOMYSYNTH ANATOMY+5Music Business Worldwide+5Attack Magazine+5

Splice, backed by Goldman Sachs and valued at nearly $500 million in 2021, has grown significantly since its founding in 2013, offering an audio sample platform and tools for music producers. The acquisition of Spitfire Audio, renowned for its high-quality virtual instrument libraries, will allow Splice to integrate top-tier orchestral sounds into its catalog, expanding the creative possibilities for its users .Financial TimesMusic Ally

Although no other acquisitions by Splice have been reported so far, the company has expressed interest in expanding into the $7 billion music software and services sector, suggesting that future acquisitions could be considered to consolidate its market position .

The writing was on the wall after Christian Henson revealed he was a bit of a jerk.

Splice paid around $50 million to acquire Spitfire.

This is cheap especially when comparing with the hi tech sector where many startups are acquired for at least $300 million. And of course, you have companies like Google or Meta that won't have any problem to drop a billion dollars to make sure they are getting the next big thing.

I'm also surprised by Spitfire's financial health as I thought they were in a much better place. Actually, it kind of remind me of Fiat buying Ferrari, and not the other way around.

They lost their way after Christian left, and it was entirely predictable, he was the heart of the company. The rest of the people felt like logistics people.

Ok, maybe I'm a bit out of touch with this. I admit to knowing very little about Splice; I've never purchased anything from them and don't use loops so have never had cause to go near them. I understand they do a payment plan thing for third-party software; something else I've no interest in. I imagine that this is the model they're looking to introduce for Spitfire.

I have to disagree with your take on Spitfire's output however. Some (relatively) recent libraries have been stellar such as BBC orchestra and the Abbey Road offerings (I don't own them but have played with them in someone else's studio).

Ok, fuck Splice then. Spitfire are obviously finished innovating under those circumstances...

Market law: If your products are no longer in sufficient demand, they will disappear from the market.
This is due to (a) market saturation, (b) competition, and (c) consumers' lack of cash.

The BIGGEST re-cycle company! I stopped downloading and purchasing their stuff long time a go when I realized everything is freaking re-cycled! All sounds the same, boring, bland, same shit-different name and packaging.

Since Henson left, Paul Thomson probably thought about it real hard and figured he'd better take the 50M offer (split with Henson in a sense) and move on, with Splice or not. It will really be interesting to see where they go from here. I wish him and the rest of the guys at Spitfire (O.P.Weder, Homay Schmitz, etc) the best of luck.

I have adopted many of their libs over the last ten years and I find them truly loveable (unlike all the crap from, say, 8dio) and use them all the time. Hell, I even bought some! :winker:

yeah i also found that cheap, but then again we are in the audio company part of the market, its not to huge maybe?

Ferrari didnt sell many units, but expensive ones, so it makes sense FIAT (since fiat sold a massive amount of units compared to ferrari) could buy it? (quick thought)

I dont know, i´m not mad at all, but i´m not using it so...we are in the wild times, maybe they want to do something else, it does not make any sense to blast dudes thru the forum, they did their thing, they moved on. I´m also not mad at companies moving on and not dealing with their customers anymore and so on, it goes with the times. 50M might a bit too low tho..
