Spitfire announced today that they has been acquired by Splice. Honestly, I have no words.

Could there be an option for "I don't really care?"
I'm not being flippant or jerky about it, just that neither company means anything to me. As for Spitfire, I assume this means a payday for them so yay them. :dunno:

Spitfire sucks anyway. Best thing they have is the hot girl who demos the libraries on youtube.

I think the whole Spitfire thing will start to go down the drain... unfortunately it's hard to imagine that Splice will improve on what is already satisfactory:
(Kuckle: -But I think genres are changing, being reinvented all the time; so much opportunity; the jorney of AI; feedbackloops)...
    :dunno:Place your bets!:dunno:

Maybe we will be able to get samples of separate notes instead of downloading huge libraries

If you're surprised by this, you would be even more surprised with who owns who if you research a little. There are very few autonomous audio (and other) companies left. This is the age of huge corporations that kill quality, creativity, refinement by pushing the quantity and profit for its stockholders at the 1st place, above everything else. That said, not all mergers are equally destructive, of course...

Spitfire have certainly made some of the best and most unaffordable orchestral libraries in the game. That said, creating such libraries is a gargantuan task, sometimes taking many years, and that amount of work will never come cheap.

I suppose the question is whether Splice will demand faster, more consumable content or whether Spitfire will be allowed to follow its own path?

Personally, I don't think there's any practical reason for turning Spitfire into a second rate loop maker and losing the credibility that they have. Splice could quite easily have acquired other companies more specifically suited to that purpose if they wanted to. It's just another corporate takeover, much like any other. There's only one reason that Splice have acquired them and that is because they are a profitable company. I doubt very much they're going to mess with that.

Christ, how sad - I guess money talks and they accepted the $50 million - what a sell out - to a firm that champions and in favour of AI instead of real musicians

Spitfire ran out of new stuff to sample years ago. Now they just keep making yet another string library and charging a small mortgage for it.
So I can't say I care about this news.

I'm not a big orchestral library user, though I've had my times with their BBC Symphony Orchestra. LABS has been fun for some odd experiments.

So I'm not affected, but I do hope the people currently using their stuff will be catered for. Being roped into a subscription bollocks ain't gonna be good if that happens.

I hope so, in the video and the official statement they talked about introducing some Splice AI into their proprietary software and vice versa. Another hint was their "About Spitfire Audio" video 3 days ago where they used such common Splice loops, which is very unusual for this company. I'm not some extreme fan of theirs, but their libraries were world class.

Someone could walk with the 50 million and go make whatever music they actually want to. I was guessing they would be done soon anyway, when they began going to their own plugin versions instead of Kontakt. If I was this guy, the video would be of nothing but tires screeching and taillights.

LMAO, that's actually Spitfire's entire business BEFORE Splice. They are not a bad company by any means, but they oversaturated the market with too many libraries. They are more concerned about pumping out a bunch of cheap libraries made from their big libraries and leftover content, and also big overpriced libraries for the suckers who think they will finally make it in the movie industry. Their best stuff was years ago with the Symphonic and Chamber series.

It's been years since Spitfire is not a boutique sample library maker anymore. Those are the Westwood, Strezov and Teletone. It's no wonder Christian Henson left Spitfire after his controversy just to make the exact same thing in a different place. Just pump out a bunch of libraries once a month as if they are Fortnite microtransactions.

This happens when you don't listen to your customers and recycle old samples all over again! Once I bought a library and they claimed they used new samples. It wasn't, they used old samples from their old BML series. They didn't even bother to rename their samples. I got my money back, and it was a "mistake". It was my last library I bought there. I found out I was not the only one with these issues. If you f*ck with your customers, you always lose! Because they vote with their dollars.
