When creating a new project inside a system folder like documents/downloads Cubase usually prompts a dialog saying, "disable the write protection" and continue. But what does this actually do? all the permission related settings seem to be same as other system folders even after proceeding with project creation. All other software doesn't have this issue, and I don't see any specific write protection on these folders by default.

Do you guys have any idea? But once you continue with disabling the write protection Cubase seems to remember the folder or anything changed at all? I have concern because I accidentally selected a system folder, and I need to revert all the permissions to default setting.

Edit: Further clarification since most users misunderstood the situation,

    1. Project creation has no issues and works fine after clicking continue with disabling write protection.
    2. I have full ownership of those folders.
    3. I need to know what it did to the folder by disabling write protection, And I'm pretty sure documents folder doesn't have any write protection by default other than being a system folder.

All the security attributes seem to be the same before and after Cubase disabled the write protection. But somehow when creating a project again Cubase doesn't prompt me the dialog again for that specific folder, does it mean that it did something to that folder?

    I'm using Windows 11 with Cubase 14.

No, Controlled folder access is disabled by default.

This message shows up even when I run Cubase as admin, I have a separate drive for my music stuff this is not about it. I accidentally selected a system folder, and Cubase disabled the "write protection". But it seems nothing changed at all regarding permissions. I need to know what exactly happened to the folder permissions. This message doesn't show up when creating projects on my external drive btw.

    https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/take_full_ownership_of_files_folders_registry_hack.html

You may have to take ownership of those folders you are using to write and save project files.

This will set your main user account as having full ownership of those folders.

That reg entry will enable right click and "Take Ownership" on your right click menu.

Since I work with many computer backups, repair computers, install OS etc and external drives I have had to do this thousands of times when I need access to the users files in order to make repairs to either folders or files being locked. After the repairs I give their user account "take ownership" once I am in their system and it's ready to be handed back to the customer.

I have full ownership of the folder and don't have an issue creating projects, it works after clicking continue on disable write protection. Check my updated post.
