Hi everybody! this is my first post here and its kind of a question!
I've been trying to copy this bass sound, and so far i get close by using a half of a kick drum shot in oscillator one and a triangle wave in the second oscillator. Its fine in low octaves but not nice in upper octaves.
Any ideas on how to make this bass sound?

Interesting, that was the first thing came into my mind, a simple SAW with overdrive and some eq. But after few hours of investigating and experimenting, I've found out about using kick drum in my oscillator, and not any kick drum, it has to be short and without hi frequencies. and in order to soften it i used a triangle wave form.
the result is good but not exactly what i wanted in high notes. Here it is so far:

yeah i cant get it to sound like the original. Listen to that funky high notes. hehe
And by the way, i didn't use any of your advice for this :D But i do similar stuff with my normal bass sounds. At this point I'm happy with what I've got so far.
And you are right about the source. everything depends on the kick wave form being used. in fact when its right, we don't even need any processing to do on it.

 

Good tip. Phaser makes it smoother and nicer. This is kind of a dark territory for me, never used a kick as a bass.
I've learned from my experience, keeping it simple and using a good compression and right EQing with the kick, helps a lot.
