How is making original samples in advance any different than making the exact same sounds inside the track you are going to use them in?

"making your own samples", to me anyway; just implies you are making a batch of sounds not within a project, for later use.
Including by other people, so that means selling or sharing them.

They are made outside the context of a track, and sit on a hard disk until they get used. That also means you are spending labor on something that may never even be used by anyone. They are made outside of any context.

What you say has nothing to do with the art of sampling

You're complaining on a grand scale, oh, the companies and the licensors are to blame. Make your own samples and get creative.

You don't lose your time digging in random sample packs.

I would like to clarify the concept: I am talking about the art of recycling combined with music, this is what the whole history of hip hop is based on. From the late 80s onwards, much of house music has also been based on it. At first, samplers were delivered with original floppy disks with only sampled synths, but it was the improper (and artistic) use of the machine that made it so famous: The technique of feeding bits and pieces of vinyl into sampler revolutionized music, the rest is history.

I'm sure other people do this as well, it's not like it's a guarded secret or anything. But, say I'm trying out a new pedal setup for guitar, or breaking in a new set of strings or whatever. Record, sometimes weird stuff comes in. After a session of dicking about edit the good bits. Same thing with physically tweaking a synth, good things happen. Now there's some handy things in my library, stick them all into a sampler, twist them to fit each other, create a collage of sounds.

It's not "sampling" in the sense of "lifting and flipping" a bit to recontextualize a familiar tune/sound, but it's "sampling" in the sense of "mangling a sampler to submission". Can mix both though.

And regarding copyrights and such, there's always playing a live set. Lift a familiar bit, say it's a cover tune re-edit and that's it. The main riff to Superfreak is always fun to loop and fuck up live with some suitably banging backing.

Sure. But I got the impression that this thread was not about the private use scenario but regular public use etc...

to my way of thinking all of that is "processing". Wether I stick it into one of my Emus or do it directly on the channel in the DAW. The sample is the waveform file I start with. Not what I do with it. Making samples, is setting up a patch on one of my hardware synths, connecting it to Sample Robot on PC or Autosampler in Logic, and generating the wavforms so they can be stuck into the sampler to start with keymapped; or if they are played in or sequenced material that is creating Loops.
