Just installed a new plugin and it said I needed to update ilok license manager. No problem, I thought. Uninstall old version, install latest and get the dreaded 1603 error. Won't install. Anybody figured out a work around? Spent the last few hours searching forums but nothing has worked. Running Windows 10.

Thanks Radio, no luck. I tried that. It says something about "can't run ilokpnputil.bat. Needs admin rights" Even though I am running the installer as admin.

I've got work to do and I can't run a plugin I just bought. This is why ilok sucks!

Thanks for the help tzzsmk and Radio!
I tried the turning on Server service tip. My computer did not like that at all.
Strange thing is I had updated ilok last year. Installed without a hitch. I keep minimum plugins installed on my system and never have any problems. Think I will wait until I have more free time to work on this issue.

    yeah - your workaround.
If you payed for it, get a refund.
Then get the cracked version of whatever it is...
    Done.

    all things "ilok" suck ass...

ou're welcome. If you have a VPN, you should turn it off. What do you mean, "the computer didn't like it"? How can I introduce myself? Warning message?

I unistalled ilok license manager, turned server service on and rebooted. Once it restarted my desktop screen appeared with no icons. They showed up about two minutes later and the computer was really sluggish. Tried installing ilok, it stopped about halfway through install. Tried again and got the screen again saying it could not complete install and was rolling everthing back. Very frustrating.

Since it works fine on other PCs, the problem must be with your Windows.
What do you think about a second repair installation of Windows?

Seems to me to be a problem with admin rights to where ilok is extracting and installing the files from even though I am installing it as admin.
I've got disk image files from before I installed the last version of ilok. Might try that later. Thing is my system hasn't really changed since then and my computer runs perfectly.
I'm in the middle of an important project and don't want to get too bogged down trying to figure it out right now.

Completely uninstall the old version and download the latest version directly from the iLok manufacturer:
    Free Download: www.ilok.com/#!license-manager

    Installation
    Uninstall First!
If you are updating iLok License Manager from an older version, be sure to uninstall your current version prior to installing the new one.

    • The macOS License Support installer has a handy Uninstaller to run.
    • For Windows, use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall “PACE License Support”.
    Latest License Support Installers

    macOS 10.12 or above

    64-bit Windows 7+

Download and run the License Support Installer for your operating system. If your software requires you to use an older operating system, legacy installers including Windows 32-bit are available here.

Once you have run the License Support Installer, you can launch the iLok License Manager application.

Radio, thank you so much!!! Got it figured out.

Just like the ilok info you posted: control panel, select System and security, select Admin Tools, select Services. Turn on service called Server. Now what they missed, it is also dependent on Security Accounts Manager. Find it in the services and turn it on also.

Now unistall Pace and install new version. Go back to services and you can turn Server and Security Accounts Manager off again. Reboot and you are good to go.

At least that what works on my system. It's strange because I didn't have to do this last time I updated ilok.

Thanks to Radio for all the help and also tzzsmk.

    yup that's why I mentioned uninstall+reboot+install,
iLok just as many other nasty programs have services running in the background which may "hang" on auto updates,

one more thing you should check just to be sure - go into Windows Device Manager and check if iLok USB dongle is running properly without any warnings/errors

glad you figured it out
