I have acrophobia, so I prefer beaches. Moreover, the download speed is better there.

definitely lucida, but it would be better if it was more frequently successful. sometimes you have to switch services, resolve to others, etc. the sites it is ripping from are pretty obviously combating it continuously. it is pretty shady, in principle. it will even rip tracks from Soundcloud the user has not allowed downloads for the track. I am reminded of doing this kind of downloading using Tamperdata.

I remember listening to various transistor 'wrist radios' while out in the fields picking strawberries or pole beans as a kid... Was a nice distraction to the toiling nobody ever complained about the poor quality mono from a single 2.5 or 3 inch speaker I think back then everyone was just used to using their own minds to fill in the blanks...

On the other hand a friend's dad had a beautiful RCA stereo console used to listen to it wen his dad was at work took awhile for the tubes to heat up but nothing sounds like tubes & You can't replicate this experience in any digital way... These 'tube emulation' developers kinda get there in a way but you would have to have a computer that runs using tubes to have it really 'pop'...

So the worst & the best... get an old tube console & vinyl then you don't need hi-rez digital... my brother-in-law has a guy who makes custom tube stereo amps that he listens through, big difference>>>

I listen to a lot of music in hi res and I would like to leave my point of view to those who want to approach this type of files and enjoy the benefits.
First of all, you need quality monitors that allow you to listen to the entire audible range: you also need to use an audio interface or a dac that can reproduce high bitrates, unfortunately laptop interfaces can reproduce 16bit/48k max and therefore the files will be downsampled, nullifying the effort. You can't even play full Hi-res files from a smartphone, via bluetooth or even with a cable because they will be downsampled: you will definitely need a dac for this.
Apart from the gear used, in order to listen to a Hi-res you have to choose the right master: especially in vintage recordings, the source is the key: many Hi-res albums are remastered in the worst way and, in the attempt to "modernize" the sound, they are completely ruined with the abuse of denoisers, compressors, limiters, with the result of completely destroying the original vibe. A warning should also be made for files found on pirate sites: many albums that are found in download are inflated mp3, so even if they are hi-res, in reality they will not have the dynamics and frequency response that you expect.
My personal opinion is that for vintage recordings it is always better to use vinyl recorded in that specific era, for current music instead, using hi-res (from an official source and with the right gear) makes a big difference. Generally speaking, in order to start playing hi-res music it is worth getting a subscription to the music platforms ($10 per month) and trying to understand if it is worth it with them.
