I’ve been noticing some issues with my gamepad’s responsiveness, and I suspect the deadzone might be the problem. Sometimes, small stick movements don’t register at all, while other times there’s unwanted drift. I’d like to run a proper gamepad deadzone test to check if my controller is functioning correctly.

Are there any reliable tools or software to test deadzones accurately on PC or consoles? Also, is there a way to adjust dead zones manually for better precision, either through system settings or third-party software?

I’d appreciate any recommendations on how to fine-tune my controller to get the best responsiveness. If you’ve had similar issues and found a good fix, I’d love to hear your experience.

What is the gamepad? I suspect this is just joystick drift, and there's really no fix for that other than taking it out and replacing it with a new one. Some people have "fixes" for drift, but those are just temporary or most of the time, just placebo. I'm used to repairing gamepads, the issue with modern controllers is highly electric more than anything else. It's just old tech not being able to keep up with modern circuits, which is why most controllers nowadays (except for Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft atm) have switched from potentiometers to magnetic (still a potentiometer, but in a different way).

I recommend spending $15~$20 in a 8bitdo controller that fits your needs. Even better if you're not on a budget, I can suggest more based on what you can pay. I have quite a few controllers, from the console giants to small chinese brands. Website's in Japanese, but the program is in English. It lets you test and customise your controller's mappings, including deadzones, sensitivity, rapid fire toggles, response curves, .. to your liking.

Set up is a bit "wtf" at first, but it's actually really easy once you get it. Works with any DirectInput or XInput app/game.
