Hi Audiosexers, as the title says, there is only one expansion I want to try (Reel Machines), so I don't want the full 10GB installation package, only the core plugin and this expansion, is it possible and if so what is the most painless way to install this?

I read many people have issues with the last release and some said the one before that works fine, so which Addictive Drums 2 version do you think I should install from the sister site? I will be using Win11 and Ableton Live 12 VST3 host.

    Thanks for the help!

Install the latest version of R2R and delete the old version completely first.

XLN Audio Addictive Drums 2 Complete v2.5.2.1 Incl Patched and Keygen-R2R
    Team R2R | 2024.11.01 | 10.1 GB

EDIT: Big apologies for the incomplete support. I've now figured it out and deleted all sound packs except for "Reel Maschine," and you can use it. Please read @omiac's post and thank you to @omiac for helping resolve the issue.

So there is no way to avoid this 10GB installation? The expansion is only 420MB :snuffy:

The system requirements for XLN Audio Addictive Drums 2: The installation requires approximately 11,1 GB.

There is no definitive way of saying as the installed gives zero options like you need. Try installing the whole thing and then deleting what you dont want is my best guess.

Don't bother, I've attached three pictures of the Addictive Drums 2 directory! Make sure you get an external hard drive!

    @Radio Thank you for answering.

Ah so by "dont bother" you mean its all or nothing and deleting everything afterwards, then installing only the 1 expansion, is not possible? :(

A mandatory 11.1GB install for one small MB's beats expansion is a bit excessive where my precious and very limited internal SSD space is concerned. I try to avoid external drives as much as possible for real time recording and producing, except of course for backing up important masters, projects and stems.

you can delete individual packs after installing. just navigate to the folder, and delete any packs you do not want.

Yes, you need to install the Addictive Drums 2 sample library in order to use the plugin.
The size of the library may vary depending on which bundle or extensions you have purchased

Can you use Addictive Drums without the 11 GB library?

No, you cannot use Addictive Drums 2 without installing the sample library.
The library is essential for the functionality of the plugin, as it contains the drum samples required for sound generation.

    Install a older Version:
    XLN Audio Addictive Drums v1.5.4 [Team R2R | 13.3.2013 | 5.36 MB]
    XLN Audio Addictive Drums v1.5.3 Library [R2R | 12.10.2012 | 4.5 GB]

EDIT: Big apologies for the incomplete support. I've now figured it out and deleted all sound packs except for "Reel Maschine," and you can use it. Please read @omiac's post and thank you to @omiac for helping resolve the issue.

Just to clarify a few things..

The Reel Machines expansion requires Addictive Drums 2, so apparently the older v1 scene versions you referenced are incompatible. Get the latest v2 and you will be good to go.

Secondly, it absolutely 100% is totally possible to install everything and then remove all unneeded expansions keeping only the Reel Machines expansion, if that is all you want. You'll just have to go through and open each folder to see the names of the expansions before deleting them. When you open the plugin you will find those deleted expansions are still listed in the browser, but when selected, no sounds will play. If you only keep the one expansion, I think in total you should end up at around 1gb of space used up.

    :)

I've used 7200rpm normal hard drives for over a decade as a D: Drive and great for Samples, Big Libraries etc.
Worth getting a big one either WD Black 3.5" 7200rpm or Seagate Barracuda Pro plus others Models.

Installing products on an external drive
    External disks - why?

It is not uncommon to want to install sample libraries on an external HD. Benefits include being able to reinstall the OS without having to reinstall huge libraries, and also making sure the system's disk access doesn't interfere with sample loading (especially important for sample players that stream the audio from disk in real time.) Addictive Drums and Addictive Keys are comparably small (AD core library about 1.5 GB, ADpaks roughly 6-700 MB each, AK instruments around 1-1.5 GB each). Additionally, the samples are not streamed from disk - so you may very well keep your XLN Audio products on the system drive, which is the default. If you still want to use an external drive - read on!

How to install Addictive Drums, Addictive Keys or XO on an external drive
    1. Start the XLN Online Installer.
    2. Click the Customize Installation button.
    3. Under Installation paths there are tabs for Addictive Drums 2, Addictive Keys and XO (as well as a VST 2 (64 bit) path tab for moving the VST2 plug-in files if you are running Windows). Select your desired path/location, then click Apply.
(If you have a big installation, it may take a while to move everything)
    4. When it is finished, click Done.
    5. Take the opportunity to install any updates available to your product

@Radio Read my comment again.. You'll just have to go through and open each folder to see the names of the expansions before deleting them.

Open those Sound Data folders you posted screenshots of and look inside (i.e., ADAP1041_Studio_Rock.xpak) :woot:

*Folder ADAP1055 is where the Reel Machines expansion is located ;)

When in doubt, just go through each and only delete the Sound Data folders with listed expansions inside that you don't need, leave everything else intact. That is what I did and it works flawlessly. Perhaps also deleting the corresponding "App" folders will free up yet even more space, but they're relatively small in size so I left those alone and is probably why I still see the expansion packs in the browser. Maybe a messy way of doing it, but at the time I wasn't worrying about a couple few hundred MB's leftover.

It comes with a Library placer.
You can pretty much move it anywhere, after installation, then after doing the move double click it and the stand-alone and plugin will find where the libraries are without errors. Obviously, they need to be closed at the time. Just make sure the library placer is where you moved it to.
