Not a movie, but a series of interesting youtube videos on Architecture ..

If you abhor most contemporary architecture, you've probably never heard of John Lautner who was a genius at defining space. To me the equivalent of Mozart or Beethoven or Bach in 3 dimensions.

This fellow runs a channel where he looks at many of Lautner's designs, and does a great job of explainging the design and how the space works. He also covers some other mid century builders, but many of them have been covered in depth, whereas John Lautner is truly a forgotten genius. No one has yet come along that can walk in his footsteps.

You may recognize some of his homes, they have been in James Bond and other films. Were I to hit the lottery, I think I'd build a licensed copy of this home somewhere pleasant and not in southern california...

there are at least 2 documentaries about John Lautner as well as several books and some filmed talks.
The best book is quite expensive, around 300$, but is available for hourly loan on archive.org if you become a free member.

Its best viewed on a large 25" or bigger monitor, otherwise all the detail is lost..

    Aniara [2018]

A spaceship carrying settlers to Mars is knocked off course, causing the consumption-obsessed passengers to consider their place in the universe.

There’s both so much and so little to say about this film. It’s slow-paced, deeply melancholic—far from the kind of movies I usually enjoy.

And yet, after watching it, it has earned a place in my top twenty, maybe even top ten.

I want to watch it again… but I don’t quite have the courage.

Based on a true story. Set in the 80's but is totally relevant to today's situation. Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult proving what versatile actors they are. I was hooked 5 minutes in. Brilliant. One of the best movies I've seen this year.

    Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

    IMDB gives it 7.6

    Night Train to Munich...

Not a moral fairy tale about the dangers of strong drink featuring a fortified wine sold in cheap liquor stores -
that would be NightTrain to Detroit....

No this is Night Train to Munich - After Germany invades Czechia, the German and the British intelligence services try to capture Czech scientist Dr. Axel Bomasch (James Harcourt), inventor of a new type of armor-plating

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032842/?ref_=fn_all_ttl_1

    IMDB gives it 7.2

This was released in UK in December of 1940, A full year before Italy bombed Pearl Harbor driving Canada into the War with the mounted police invading East Germany and losing many horses and hats.

Dramatic and Comedic by turn, almost a Hitchcock tale at times..

felt it had too much sex and violence for my taste. not really suitable family fare.
guess its good for the cinematically adventurous sort..

prefer something more on the beam, perhaps with a light musical number and some
    interesting (though modest) costumes.

Somethings like Cats and Titanic combined, but shorter and with an intermission for
those of us with short attention spans and small bladders.

It's already been made, it was called "They Can Swim". It was a Mike Nichols film and the only place that I found it is on Internet Archives.
When the cats notice the stowaway rats jumping ship they commandeer the only lifeboat, thereby stranding the humans to their watery fate, and fill the boat with the rats. As the vessel, The Billy Cork is sinking, the cats rescue any rats that are clinging to life in the freezing sea. They are not doing this though out of the kindness of their feline hearts, but rather to have enough food in the event that they are not shortly rescued. It is a psychological thriller, the tension mounting as the days go by as one by one the mice are devoured and their as a group doing what they each can do to remain sane in the knowledge that any one of them could be next until they are found and rescued. I gave it a 4/5. Felix Gray who played the leader of the doomed mice deserved an Oscar, That year Michael Douglas won for his portrayal of Gorden Gekko which was a tough one to beat.

does it have subtitles? I often have trouble following Cat, as I only had a year of Cat as 2nd Language and I never really mastered purring at all.

It sounds good, I'm downloading the entire Internet Archive as we converse this very moment (so far its still stuck on the "A"s. Amazon is delivering a van full of USB thumb drives this afternoon and I've hired a typist to label all of them. Thanks for pointing me towards this gem. I had planned on sorting socks and checking all the glasses to verify they were indeed 8 ounces, this afternoon, but I think this takes precedence.

I love a good musical at sea, haven't seen anything that could top "Treasure Island" yet..

At the risk of sounding cheesy, I am a bit excited to join the forum. I was around the scene way way back. Still remember those AiR, R2R, ArCTiC cracktros. I love film and scoring/sound design so making my first post here.

Harmony Korine, of Gummo & Spring Breakers fame, has released a couple of avant-garde movies in the past few years, with some unexpected artists doing the scores.

    Aggro Dr1ft (2023) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt28494518/
Crime thriller shot entirely in "thermal" style imagery. It is honestly a hard watch, but araabMUZIK did the score:

    --

    Baby Invasion (2024) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33029871/
"An ultra-realistic, multiplayer FPS game follows a group of mercenaries using baby faces as avatars."
Looks trippy as hell with Aphex Twin style face swaps with babies, but I haven't been able to find it yet. It was shown at some festivals last year.
The Burial did the score for this one. https://pitchfork.com/news/burial-scores-new-harmony-korine-movie-baby-invasion/

    The Electric State (2025)

It's had mixed reviews but I thought it was great fun.
Strong cast including Millie Bobbie Brown, Chris Pratt, Woody Harrelson.
Killer soundtrack including Danzig (Mother), Tom Petty (Mary Jane's Last Dance), The Clash (I Fought The Law), Al Green, Oasis, Judas Priest, The Flaming Lips, Poison, Journey and...... Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch. I only mention the last one because it sets up a great line from Chris Pratt.

I watched it. Think I've seen all of Adam Curtis' work..
I liked it. Adam is a good story teller. I don't always agree with his bias, but he does his best to tell things as he sees them.

probably should also read Marshall Mcluhan,

marshall mcluhan: we become what we behold

    3) Life imitates art. We shape our tools and thereafter they shape us. These extensions of our senses begin to interact with our senses. These media become a massage. The new change in the environment creates a new balance among the senses. No sense operates in isolation. The full sensorium seeks fulfillment in almost every sense experience.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_McLuhan

McLuhan coined the expression "the medium is the message"[13] (in the first chapter of his Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man)[14], as well as the term global village. He predicted the World Wide Web almost 30 years before it was invented.[15] He was a fixture in media discourse in the late 1960s, though his influence began to wane in the early 1970s.[16] In the years following his death, he continued to be a controversial figure in academic circles.[17] However, with the arrival of the Internet and the World Wide Web, interest was renewed in his work and perspectives.[18][19][20]

he wrote several books available on Amazon and better torrents wherever electricity is available.

    https://www.amazon.com/s?k=marshall...+mclu,aps,651&ref=nb_sb_ss_mvt-t9-ranker_2_13

also appeared in a Woody Allan movie, beleive it was Annie Hall.. (its a cameo, but well done)
