Got a friend starting out in music as an engineer. I don't use Fiverr. I am a producer and he used to be my engineer. I just posted this for him since he is not on social media.

 

Give a mastering service friend a fish and it'll master but only one day...teach a mastering service friend to fish and....

 

Too bad not all ppl can swim.

 

They should learn else they might drown. If they're jumping in it'ud be a wise thing to do...but one need not learn to swim if casting from the shore.

 

Look man, with how vague the description and the demo is, my initial thought is that this is just some random dude throwing files into an AI model of some kind.

I know it's cheap, but compared to other mastering engineers on fiver, it looks kinda fake. No picture, no name (which should be a selling point if he has some experience), and a demo that doens't even have vocals or sounds like anything that people would actually pay for being mastered. It's hard to trust.

He might not be on social media but surely he has access to the internet. Point him in the direction of this thread. It should take him about as long to join the forum as it took you to join. He can then ask questions directly rather than going through an intermediary.

 

So he is not on social media and forum's too little for him(?) but he's on fiver (almost social media if you ask me) and expects to get client contacts via email (since no other electronic way) and has invented a new mastering process. Oh geez so have i. But blimey can't be proven. Why ?
Because everyone have "invented" their own mastering process
PS: Examples of mix and mastering with programmed electronic tracks tell nothing. Especially the 4 ch. beat example i heard lol. If you want to show mix & mastering skills you do it with recorded material, real musicians output please. The richer the material acoustically, the better. Just my "five" cents, pun intented.

most of these "flat rate" services are going to do the same things to the file, no matter what they are sent.

Wait 'till you see it and hear it in action. I see that expensive .85 cents per minute and i go as low as .70 cents per minute. Wth i'm a thirdworlder anyway haha.

 

Your friend's numbers don't stack up.



Basic package is 12 minutes for 1 song.
Standard package is 24 minutes for 6 songs (4 minutes per song).
Premium package is 48 minutes for 12 songs (4 minutes per song).

While you, I mean your friend, are perfectly entitled to charge whatever rate you believe the market can bear, I am questioning: if it only takes you 4 minutes to "engineer" a song for each of the Standard and Premium packages, what exactly are you doing for the other 8 minutes when you are engineering the single song for the Basic package?

(I'm guessing it maybe takes 8 minutes for the Magic Mixing Machine to warm up?)

 

He writes EP there, so it's like 3-4 songs? hehehe. Not that it makes any difference, your quote is well reserved. If i have to guess his "invented" process, mix is done with Neutron assistant, master is done with Ozone assistant. Or some other AI assisted soft. I have tested both Izotope ones in "auto pilot" modes and they do a fairly good job, about 60-65% "accurate" i 'd say. The less complicated the song is, the better the outcome is.
But of course,
Since music mix and master is an endeavor about (finding and) letting the important details shine, these crude automated methods don't do justice to any decent song. I reckon it won't be long (if it's not there already to my ignorance) before Izotope or EzMix or whoever, will let you select presets from a long list, like "Mix it with Bob Clearmountain's style" or "Master it like Bob Katz" etc etc., Band In a Box style for mix and master.

He writes EP, but last row states "Songs included: 1". It should indeed be 3 if he's being consistent with 4 mins per song.
