I'm watching this video of Anthony Marinelli on getting this bass patch. I'm on the Mini Moog using Arturia's Mini V4 and I'm just not getting that authentic Moog tone. It's somewhat a bit brighter but once I turn down the Brightness & the Timbre knobs at the bottom of the plugin it just sounds dull. That midrange punch of the actual Moog just is not there.
I want to hear from true Mini Moog users from the 70s if possible, but anyone familiar with using the Mini Moog, please give me some constructive criticism and please point me to the right direction to achieve that sound.
Now not that I am just playing through the speakers of my MacBook Pro M1, but his Moog is coming through the same as well. I'm aware that his sound system is different and I'm hearing his through his system, but there is a major difference in what I'm hearing in the two synths.

I have created a soundbank for the Arturia MiniMoog myself, and I can say that Arturia is very far removed from the original MiniMoog. The Gforce - Minimonsta2 sounds better to me. In the attachment you will find the Minimoog Patch Book.

You're not going to. It's ilok'd like all Softube plugins. (barring unforseen scenario)

 

Is the Arturia Mini capable of the same distortion sound as in the Mini he used in the video?
I don't think so.
I would play with distortion after the Mini, it's an essential part of this bass sound and adds considerable brightness although the filter cutoff is fairly low.

 

Yes the Arturia Mini v4 can overdrive the input signal.

Do you have Synapse Legend? It is very good at these specific kinds of basses. Fair warning...I generally avoid any Arturia synths I can, but I do use some effects from them. For the usual complaints about bloat, mostly. Legend is great for Moog style basses, and that one you will find on the Sister Site for Mac. Just not the newer HZ version.

 

Go with real Moog Plugins.

Like the Legendary Moog Mariana or the Moog Model D as Plugin from Moog Himself.

Use the Original Plugs instead of the Bunch of imitations.

Also i can Agree, that Legend HZ Synapse Audio is a really Great Fat One.

Legend HZ and marianna IMO are the only ones, that can come close to the analog Original.

I had the chance for comparison, with a original Model D to the Plugins.

What Plugins can't do is: To build and bring these Bottom Fattyness in Sound what the Original Model D has.

But when you listened one time to a Analog Original Model D, you know already what to do with the Plugins and a little EQ to get this Sound out of the Plugins.

Lucky me, that i have all of them in Plugin Form.

Really Enjoyable.

BTW.... I currently try to rebuild this Video Sound in the Original Model D Standalone App from Moog.

OMG:

Moog Software Original Model D ----> I come close. But the Result of the Tuning knob is different.

Also the two knobs he mention at the End are not available in my version.

Arturia ---> Is complete different Story. I dont know what they did, but this is not a modeled Model D .... its a completet diffferent Synth but not a Moog. Something else.

Mariana is also a very Different Philosophy behind that. You cant Compare it either way.

LAst Try is Legend HZ.

I wish i had the Model 72 from Softube.

You know where there are also some great Moog sounds to be had? The Bob Moog Tribute library in Omnisphere.

The problem with it, is so many people screw up installing it for whatever reason.

Mariana will work on Intel Macs, but you need a minimum MacOS version 11.x so I just stick to hardware.
