or better yet, let stop promoting information, or bashing things we don't understand. A state of ketosis is a natural biochemical metabolic state that your body goes into, just the same a 'glycolysis' (burning sugar as the primary fuel source) which is the state most people eating a western diet is in. It just depends on what you eat. This is not a diet but a lifestyle change. Most people who talk shit about keto, high fat, and low-carb, are either uneducated or nearly clueless about the actual mechanics of the metabolic process. A ketogenic eating style is the healthiest dietary style for most people bearing some sort of major illness that would require a different dietary regiment.

it is not natural for people to be over weight and a lot of what people believe about diet and exercise is wrong, hence why obesity and related conditions are epidemic in the western world. Misinformation information = poor results. 99% of people who are against keto, either don't understand it, have never tried it, are parroting what other have ignorantly said, or have something to 'gain' (usually companies) from people being unaware of the truth.

The news lied to the word for decades, due to food companies lobbying the FDA for more bread, grain, and dairy sales through the 80's-90's the old food pyramid was a lie, (hence why its been changed), and 'low fat' diets are not healthy and are trash. But the 40 year food industry propaganda against fat (because refined sugar is a cheap food enhancer, and margarine was cheaper to produce than real butter) is so strong that it will still take another decade before this information trickles down to regular people and becomes mainstream information for the rest of the western world.

Fat doesn't make you fat, carbs do.

before you reject this information do your own research and avoid skimming, and sensational headlines. The information (real scientific and empirical data) is out there, this information is not new, just people (including many health professionals) are heavily misinformed.

Also, the information I am writing about is not just rhetoric, I have used this information to help many people loose weight, cut to low body fat percentages, reverse diabetes, cancer and other ailments people had no idea was related to the excessive sugar in their diet. I've never seen any other eating style that produces the health benefits of a ketogenic diet, not veganism, vegetarianism or anything else.

If you want more in-depth information from a Doctor that actually knows his shit, visit Dr. Eric Bergs youtube channel, where he goes in-depth into the science about ketogenic eating style and and gives a voice to reason when most of the world is chasing headlines, societal trends, and misinformation rather than real information:

Easy there cowboy, no one is bashing 'your' dietary advice. We're trying to help people that are starting to enter the beautiful world of weightloss misinformation, bro science and people who abuse you to make money. Like companies and influencers yes ;)

Usually, an overweight individual is not eating normally or healthy. I think it's better to start off by eating normal. Less processed foods, no sugar, less alcohol. This first step is already a big step for most, it's not only physical but also mental. It's about changing habits first, and that is difficult for everyone. Now if a person has succesfully adjusted his/her eating habits , after a few months just proceed to other things from there. There is more to gain, like you described. But let's get the new normal feeling normal first. This is absolutely key.

Btw I did keto for quite some time, not even for weight loss (I am/look pretty healthy), but just for the fun of it. Did it work? Sure. Did I feel obviously better than before? Not that I noticed.

My gf is certified PT, bikini fitness competitor and she can pretty much put anyone at any bodyfat percentage and without any yo-yo effects. One of the tools is *shocker* counting calories - this is how we both eat in our daily life and she teach me how to integrate the restaurant dinners into my weekly caloric allowance.

She read some of the very (just in appearance) scientific posts here and her advice is to go to a specialized trainer because every advice here is a "mumbo jumbo of half-assed opinions and most people completely misunderstand the "calories in calories out" model. "Theory is theory but experience is what actually provides results."

Basically be prepared to either allocate 5 years of continuous frustration & lack of results, just to learn it by yourself, or a year with a personal trainer (the ones that train bodybuilding for the lowest entry-level categories are the best choice in terms of price and results) to set you on the right path and you take it out from there.

    Good luck!

    PS: be very aware:
WEIGHT LOSS is exactly what it implies - losing body weight. Usually means losing muscle mass first and body fat after. Looks good on the scale, but not healthy at all.

FAT LOSS is exactly what it implies - losing (mostly) body fat. Needs a different approach to weight loss, the scale may not change that much and the health will improve.

Everybody wants fat loss, yet they mostly apply weight loss strategies.

Despite all of this there is some good news if you're overweight. Gravity is decreasing.

First of all get a drum set. Second, get a watermelon. Thirdly, play drums and eat watermelon (only) until you reach the state of health you prefer.

im also doing OMAD for a few years now.

the meal is usually in the evening. I tend to eat a huge meal here, lasting 2-3h. Rice with tofu, tomatos, oatmeal or sometimes some cheese.
In the last time i also ate per day one salad cucumber to bring my blood sugar level down.

over the day i drink ayran and very cheap think buttermilk. sometimes an apple. Also try to drink pure water 1-2L per day. No softdrinks.

I dont think it is a good idea to eat sugar stuff and fast food to get your cals up. THe big problem is the blood sugar level, which signals the body to increase to fat storage, which leads to weight.
Another factor is also stress, which increases colersterine, which increases sugar level --> fat storage.

Sugar substitutes aren't good either, aside from their dodgy chemical makeup they have the same weight-increasing effects as real sugar, it's how the brain reacts to them, a signal to store energy as fat.

Consuming sugar spikes insulin which you want to decrease for weight loss, so definitely don't eat sugar if you want to lose weight. Also eating foods with processed sugar is bad for your health in general and doesn't give you enough nutrients.

A lot of people forget that protein sources can make a difference in how full you feel and how your body processes calories. Goat whey protein powder is a great option if you're looking for something easier to digest compared to regular whey. It has all the essential amino acids but tends to be gentler on the stomach. Plus, it can mix well in smoothies without that heavy, bloated feeling some get with other proteins.

Yeah, I know, a necro'd thread and all, on a topic which brings out all of the proper qualified experts out, good idea for me to write some bollocks here, but...

Regardless of a) general dietary considerations and b) my own personal dietary considerations and restrictions the best thing I ever did for my diet was just a few things: get an accurate kitchen scale, get proper kitchen measures, obsessively read nutrition labels, and keep a food diary. Apart from that no gods no masters.

Does having/using/doing these make me have a good diet? Fuck no, but it makes it all the easier when necessary.

you don't eat food to lose weight, you stop eating food to lose weight.

it has been shown in studies, it is far easier to outright stop eating for a few days or more, than it is to eat
    a reduced caloric diet.

the reduced caloric diet causes constant craving, that makes it difficult to continue doing it.

fasting - only consumming water, tea, coffee or other unsweetened beverages, along with salt and/or other non caloric electrolytes, like potassium is:

    1. easier to do
    2. easier to continue to do
    3. will create desired results faster
    4. will have many other health benefits than just losing weight.

I fast 3 days a week, I began by fasting 2 days a week. I fasted for 9 months on the 2 days a week schedule.
I wanted to speed up weight loss and actually find I felt better fasting, so I increased it to 3 days a week. I have been on the 3 day a week fast for 2 months, and will continue for another 7 or so, and then will likely switch to twice a month rather than weekly fasting. depending upon my weight at that time.

Fasting will promote repair of body tissue, fasting will remove senescent cells from your body. These are cells that are no longer working properly and may be excreting problematic enzymes and other deitrus that the rest of your body has to try to destroy and remove.

I fast from sunday evening to Thursday morning. so I have the weekends to eat what I want when I want. But i've noticed fasting has reduced the amount of snacking I do when I do eat. I also now eat less when I have a meal.
my digestion has improved. My muscular mass has not suffered despite having lost nearly 40 pounds of weight so far.

I was always skinny until the last 20 years, when I underwent a lot of stress due to working long hours, changing jobs half a dozen times and working a 24 hour rotating on call schedule once every 3 weeks. I gained 50 lbs, most of it over that last 10 years. I have lost about 40 of it, so 10 more to go..

The beauty of fasting is as one's body shrinks, the skin shrinks as well, since it has time to respond, unlike weight loss drugs and surgery which can leave one requiring surgeries to repair the skin.

lastly, i have mentioned the physical changes.
Fasting causes mental changes as well, it resets your thinking as well as the hormonal issues that affect thinking like stress hormones.

on days I fast, my thinking becomes clearer. my memory is stronger. my motivation is stronger and I often sleep better as well.

so don't starve yourself on a meager diet, just stop eating for a couple days a week. then eat sensisbly when you break your fast.

I eat mostly what I want, but have reduced sugar intake, I tend to eat meat, fats like butter, whole milk, cheeses, nuts and complex carbs like brocolli, carrots, sprouts, olives etc. i'm happy with the results and the diet i enjoy when not fasting.

all my blood panels are normal now, no pre diabetes, no cholestrol issues etc.

A scotsman holds the record for longest recorded continous fast. 382 days without food

I agree with much of what you said, but calories aren't the whole picture. the body is not a simple machine

(energy in) - (energy expended) = net weight

    is incorrect.

Food, besides supplying calories, supplies nutrients, fiber and bacteria.
different foods supply different amounts of these things.

Fiber is needed for providing a mesh or framework within the digestive tract (lower gi) for bacteria to grow upon.
Bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract (GI) provide many benefits, including producing vitamins and enzymes allowing the lining of the GI to absorb nutrients and grow protecting the body from leaky gut among other problems.

Leaky gut is when the lining of the gut becomes porous and allow undigested or partially digested food to leave the GI and enter the body, proteins in food will cause an immune reaction if they occur outside the digestive system, this leads to celiacs disease and other immune problems.

Non digestible fibers - are fibers that your body can't digest, but bacteria find delicious such as inulin - which has basically zero caloric content - but is needed for a healthy life.

    https://health.clevelandclinic.org/inulin-benefits

Nutrients such as Sodium Chloride,Magnesium, Copper, Zinc, as well as Vitamin D, K2, are very important for proper
body function. Many processed foods remove or destroy vitamins and enzymes. High temperature pasteruzation of milk so called flash pasterurization destroys most of the benefits of milk, leaving a fluid composed of milk sugar and fat, for example.

so when choosing a diet, don't just consider caloric content, also understand and consider the other elements food brings as well.

fats will make you feel satiated, and lessen your hunger

sugar will raise your insulin levels, and they will crash later when the sugar is consumed - the sugar high.
this should be avoided, the more sugar you consume, the less sensitive your body becomes to insulin, requiring larger quanitities of insulin to do the same thing. This causes issues and can damage body tissue up to and including producing diabetes.

Fasting reduces insulin resistance (a good thing)

Protein, ie fish, meat, mushrooms, nuts are harder to digest, meaning it takes longer to digest them, this means you won't get hungry again as soon or as fast as if you ate sugar calories. Fat and protein are a great combination providing fullness as well as being better for your health (all things considered equal) and delaying onset of hunger again.

Remember, you are not a garbage can, most industrially produced foods contain too much sugar, fat and salt.

The increasing lack of exercise also leads to weight gain.

Hey man, I agree with your comment - you are right about sugar.

However, the claims about fat and salt have been debunked and contemporary scientific research is finally catching up.

We must make a distinction between healthy, saturated fats like butter and olive oil, and trash trans fats, like vegetable oils, etc.

Additionally, good quality salt is a super food, and it is hard to overconsume salt (unless you have a specific health condition). What we must avoid is artificial "table salt" which is utter crap.

Source: consulting clinical dietitians, reading digests of modern scientific literature.

Pizza in particular contains too much fat and salt. Many ready meals also contain too many additives and fat and salt. People don't cook enough at home or don't have the money to buy high-quality food, and they're often too stupid and too lazy.

In America, for example, you only need to go out on the street and you'll see that one in two people is overweight.
In England, sugary lemonades have been taxed more heavily because of the excessive costs for overweight people.

Sugar-containing lemonades and energy drinks are the main cause of diabetes and other diseases. If you want to drink juice, just drink a glass and dilute it with water. Otherwise, excess fruit sugar is converted into fat and stored.

The best salt is untreated sea salt. The best fat is unrefined, cold-pressed rapeseed oil and olive oil,
but this is not suitable for deep-frying or roasting, so sunflower oil is a good option.

It contains a lot of vitamin E and A and where it is used a lot, the rate of heart attacks is much lower.

It can certainly be a contributing factor if it results in a calorific surplus.

Also, bear in mind the often quoted "you can't outrun a bad diet".

Having said that, here's a bloke who lost 30 pounds eating only Twinkies (although I imagine this wouldn't be sustainable in the long-term):
