I watched Shaun of the Dead (again) this weekend, and I just had to think Nick Frost is a terribley underated actor.
I mean when you think of how many takes they had to do for some scenes, and Nick was always a real trooper ready to fart on demand. "I'll stop doing it, when you stop laughing"...

I don't think Sir Charles Olivier could fart on demand so often and so well, not to mention other screen greats like Harrison Ford, or Hugh Grant.

Truly a British Treasure..Nick Frost...

 

Not a movie, but rather a limited series which I'd kinda like a really, really long movie...Ripley!!

It is visually stunning, every single shot a work of art. The camera is an integral part of the story telling.

 

There's a series from Netflix "Altered Carbon" - its quite well done. The production values are extraordinary for television, it looks more like a film.

Legion is kind of like that, 1st season - totally unexpected and really great - I think the 3rd season was the weakest, but it was fantastic as well, just not quite as fantastic as what we had gotten used to..

IMDB gives it 7.4, I don't think I'd go that far, but I'm not ethnic chinese either, so I don't know if I'm missing some cultural clues. some of the humour is kinda infantile, but some is very funny as well. The art work is good if derivative of western animation especially. Still the living painting scenes were interesting and dazzling.



worth a watch, I'd give it a 6.9-7.0 myself.
Its based on an old lengendary story, so there are many things that don't make sense if you try to analyze them, best to just watch and go with the flow.

its been dubbed into english, (probably other languages as well) also sub titled, but I didn't really use them and there were only about 3 scenes that had chinese writing that the subs might have been handy for.

the sequel cleverly called "Ne Zha 2" is currently in theaters in Asia. its supposed to be a big hit, but you never know since they've been known to manipulate figures, guess we'll see when the dub hits foreign shores..

I watched it several weeks ago, and thought it was lacking, in story. I thought the Wild Robot was a much better film.

There is a japanese anime - its only a few episodes, 6 in total, based on a manga, about the decline of civilization occuring more with a whimper than a bang. It never reveals the cause of the decline, but instead explores the world as mankind declines through the eyes of an android created by mankind.

I think the authors of the film were inspired by this work. But I think the anime is more interesting and the stories more coherent.

its more about evoking an emotion than pursuing a tangled plot, much like the Latvian Kitty Kat animation.

Though Carmerinda is gone, I do appreciate this Anime recommendation. Its pretty good - reminds me of Kill LaKill sometimes though, the premise is completely different, maybe its the intensity and some of the art work.
its def worth a watch, though some of the opening soundtrack reminds me of Zef Style like De Antwordt.
Not a style of music I listen to regularly, though I appreciate the attempts at forging a unique identity and sound and the videos are quite entertaining.
