Hello everyone! So I have 90 samples of a single percussion instrument. It's been sampled in 18 ampitude layers from pianissimo to fortissimo. Each amplitude range has 5 alternative hits. I'd like to set it up in a way that the sampler cycles through each round robin randomly at each given velocity range. Can this be done with Reasamplomatic 5000? If not, what tool would you recommend?

Reasamplomatic 5000 does not support round-robin playback with randomization for different velocity layers.

For your needs, I would recommend using a more advanced sampler like Kontakt or Battery. Both of these tools allow for detailed sample management, including round-robin playback and the ability to set up multiple velocity layers with randomization.

Yes, it can be done in ReaSample, but that's too inflexible / takes too much time to be worthwhile. I'd use a dedicated sampler.

As an example, in Speedrum 2, you'd drop your stack of sample files on one of the pads, enable Round Robin and set up V(elocity layer ranges):

Many samplers should be able to do this. (I wouldn't bother with Kontakt though, too much work.)

I think Decent Sampler is the way to go here. (I use a particular drum library for Decent Sampler, with multiple velocity zones and with round-robin.)

It seems to me I'd have to 1) create 90 instances of Reasamplomatic in one track, 2) assign all to the same MIDI note (one by one), 3) assign all to different velocity layers using those little knobs or inputing values on my own (one by one) and, in the case of round robins, 4) input the correct probability percentage after ticking the round robin box when relevant... and even after that gargantuan task, I'm not so sure it would work! But I must be wrong, there has to be a better workflow for Reasamplomatic.

Yes, I believe that's correct (and you also need to tick "remove MIDI from stream" on all 90 instances). So yeah - just no.

Hey, xorome! Thanks for the tip. Just checked out their website. They say it supports 16 samples per pad... It's a lot, but that wouldn't work for this project. I'd need 5 round robins cycling randomly at the lowest velocity layer, then another 5 at the next lowest layer, and then 5 more and so on and so forth, until the top layer, totalling 90 samples in just one pad/key/note.

Yeah... Reaper is funny like that sometimes :bleh:

    I asked the AI?

There are actually a few ways to improve the workflow with Reasamplomatic in Reaper:

    1. Use templates: Create templates for frequently used Reasamplomatic setups to save time and ensure consistency.

    2. Use automation: Use Reaper's automation features to dynamically control Reasamplomatic parameters and optimize workflow.

    3. Limit voices: Set the maximum number of voices in Reasamplomatic to achieve more realistic sounds. For example, for a ride cymbal, you can limit the voices to 2 to get a more natural sound.

    4. Use scripts: There are special Lua scripts that make it easier to use Reasamplomatic. One example is the script “Adjust ReaSamplomatic 5000 Pitch Offset”, which offers hotkey and MIDI functionality for adjusting the pitch.

    5. Set up keyboard shortcuts: Define custom keyboard shortcuts for frequently used Reasamplomatic functions to speed up workflow.

    6. Grouping and organizing: Organize your Reasamplomatic instances into folders or groups within Reaper to keep track and navigate faster.

Is it this one? Just watched a video on how to create your own library and it mentions having to code a text file and my eye started twitching! I wonder if this would be worse than using Reasamplomatic.

Just came across this Reddit post and found the right answer to do this in Reasamplomatic 5000:

Cumbersome, yes, but I'll take that over trying (again) to install Kontakt any day.

TX16Wx also can do this, but the free version doesn't support round-robin, AFAIK.

TAL-Drum can also do this.

I love both kinda equally. Both really great for use as samplers, not just sampling drum machines.

Yes, I use the TAL sampler often, but it has a limit per pad, and for this number of velocity layers (granted, exaggerated), RS5K works better. In fact this quest helped me realize it's a great little tool!

This method above is 100% misguided and RS5K is way more practical than that — albeit counterintuitive.
