He was one of the greatest of all time. If he had only written the '87 Whitesnake album, that would have made him a musical legend on its own, but there was also the amazing Blue Murder, Thin Lizzy, the solo albums... he will be greatly missed.

Anyone who plays a Black Beauty is ok with me. Id never heard of him. How does he rate in Lizzy terms against Gazza?

Well judge for yourself as you obviously know Moore's style.
I always thought Robbo was the king...
But here's a rather lengthy video on Sykes' style:

R.I.P - The big "C" takes away another, some of us survive but life is never the same after that.
His contributions to Whitesnake were my favorites.

My all time favourite guitarist! Loved all he did from Lizzy to Whitesnake and Blue Murder (never got round to hearing his Tygers input). I had been hoping for years that he'd do a proper full blown album again, but alas... Very sadly missed! R.I.P. Mister Sykes! Many thanks for the tunes!

Definitely one of the greatest rockstars and most important guitarists of the 80s.
Oh my god,for me this is the saddest news since EVH.

Yep, another one goes down. I've seen him in Tygers and Whitesnake.
Anyone into 80's rock who hasn't heard the debut Blue Murder album should check it out.
    I'm feeling old.

A genius, extremely complicated and temperamental (see the various problems with Coverdale-Whitesnake), but he was an absolutely phenomenal and very complete musician. He will always live on and here, simply, he will always be remembered for everything he created and for how he made us feel. RIP great John Sikes!
