Hello. I have the opportunity to acoustically adapt the room that was used as a studio. Currently, these are bare walls. The room that is to be used as a recording room has dimensions of 4.05 m x 4.95 m and a height of 2.10 m. Details can be found in the attached drawing. I wonder what percentage of the walls should be covered with wool. What would be the best thickness and density? The same applies to the ceiling. I am asking for advice from an experienced person. What acoustic treatments are best? Thanks for all the replies!

    Three questions:
do you want to seal it so that no noise comes in from outside and do you want to seal it so that no noise goes out or both?

The best and cheapest way is to build a stud frame from wooden slats, leave 2 centimeters of space from the wall and build a wooden stud frame and then fill this with at least 12 centimeters of insulating material, then 2 layers of Regips Gibs boards should be screwed on top.

A timber frame home is essential for every DIY enthusiast and builder. As a common construction method, it involves frame construction and the use of timber posts, making it an indispensable tool in renovations and active home building.

Definition: What does timber frame mean?

A timber frame construction, also known as a timber post construction or post and beam construction, refers to the construction that is built using vertical wooden beams, the so-called posts. These beams provide the load-bearing skeleton of the building and can be filled or clad with different materials.1

    Construction of a timber frame

The construction of a timber frame begins with the planning and calculation of the materials and beams required. The size and weight of the loads to be supported should be taken into account. The vertical posts are then arranged at regular intervals and connected by horizontal trusses. After successful assembly, the finished frame is usually clad with a wood-based panel and insulated.2

Use and Application Areas of Timber Frames

Timber stud frames are versatile and are used not only for house and building construction, but also for interior work, renovation and the construction of roof structures. Their flexibility and robustness also make them suitable for the construction of carports, garden houses or pergolas.3

Advantages and Disadvantages of Timber Frame

The advantages of timber frame structures are clear: they are economical, quick to build and offer a high degree of flexibility in construction. They are also more sustainable than other construction methods because wood is a renewable raw material.4 However, there are also some disadvantages to consider. The planning and calculation of the load-bearing structure requires a high level of expertise. Incorrect calculations can endanger the stability of the entire building. Due to the fire sensitivity of wood, appropriate fire protection must also be ensured.

    Summary:

    - A timber frame is a building element that is used particularly in modern timber construction and is characterized by its vertically arranged beams, the so-called posts.

    - The use of timber frame construction allows for comprehensive insulation, thereby achieving a high standard of energy efficiency, which is particularly important for ecologically oriented builders.

    - The assembly of a timber frame is relatively easy and can be done quickly due to the lower weight of wood compared to stone or concrete.

For a room that size—roughly 20 m² with a relatively low ceiling—acoustic treatment is super important.
    1. Wall Coverage:
Aim to treat around 30–50% of the wall surface with absorptive material like rock wool or acoustic mineral wool. Focus especially on the first reflection points (side walls and behind the speakers/microphone), and use thicker panels (10–15 cm) for bass control in corners.

    2. Ceiling Treatment:
Treat at least 50–70% of the ceiling using cloud panels made of the same material. These should ideally be 5–10 cm thick, mounted with an air gap for better low-frequency absorption.

    3. Material Density:
Look for wool in the 40–80 kg/m³ range. Too dense and it reflects more than it absorbs; too light and it doesn't catch lower mids and bass.

    4. Bass Traps:
Definitely add bass traps in all corners, floor-to-ceiling if possible. Use denser or thicker wool here—up to 20 cm deep if you can.

    5. Diffusion (optional):
If the room feels too “dead” after treatment, add some diffusers to the rear wall to keep it lively and natural.

Also, well-finished walls, ceilings, and especially tidy junctions with quality skirting boards can also help your space feel more professional. You can check out excellent finishing options from this skirting board company to match your studio aesthetic and keep things neat.
