NVIDIA is totally screwed with this generation of cardz. They'r lucky if they don't get hit with a class-action lawsuit and in the meantime a market recall.

But they were id??ts, they already knew there were problems with this type of connector in previous generations and they wanted to persist in the mistake, while other manufacturers like AMD or Intel didn't want to use it. Now it's their problem. Good luck to them!

I definitely don't wnat to stay in the room to monitor it because I could end up with my house on fire.

Watched this just a couple hours ago. Thankfully, this hazard is only seen on their flagship cards that most people won't get. Incredible how incompetent this "standard" is.

My 4090 is working perfectly ... maybe because my power connector is specificaly designed for a 4090 ?

Why Phones Explode, and How to Prevent It From Happening to You

The average smartphone is unlikely to explode, but it happens. There's not much you can do if shoddy hardware is to blame, but these tips may help prevent your phone from going up in smoke.

Samsung too: these cell phones can be set on fire remotely

What sounds like science fiction is now reality: criminals can set smartphones on fire remotely.
But not all cell phones are affected. Owners of cheaper models in particular can rest assured.

Power cables of the Geforce RTX 5080 also melt

Apparently the 12VHPWR connector remains a problem. After some Geforce RTX 5090s, a few RTX 5080s are now also affected.

However, an analysis by tech Youtuber Roman “Der8auer” Hartung revealed general problems with the 12VHPWR standard. With a graphics card that already requires almost 600 watts unmodified, the 600 watt limit of the connector was exhausted.

In the meantime, however, there is also an initial report that a Geforce RTX 5080 (TEst) is also affected. This happened to a user on Reddit. According to his own statements, he used the power cables supplied by Nvidia and the manufacturer Asus with the 12VHPWR plug, which has repeatedly caused problems.

During the initial installation, an error was detected by the power supply unit and a red warning light came on. Apparently one of the pins was not correctly seated in the plug. The user checked the cable connection again and restarted the system.

    Gamers Nexus wants to investigate

The graphics card was now recognized and the warning signal disappeared. However, the RTX 5080 apparently switched to PCIe 3 mode, resulting in slow frame rates. It turned out that the contacts on the power supply side were melted and damaged.

An account of the YouTube channel Gamers Nexus spoke up in the thread. The team made the user an offer to buy the graphics card, the power supply unit and the damaged cable for full price.

In the past, this approach has enabled the channel to carry out further research and make videos on the subject. The magazine is also known for testing the customer service and returns processes of manufacturers - in this case, Asus.

One thing is clear: Nvidia's 12VHPWR connector apparently has some problems, even if it currently only affects a very small proportion of graphics cards. In some cases, the cable gets extremely hot and can destroy the graphics card and other components. Similar problems have already been identified with the RTX 4000 generation Ada Lovelace.
