Most antivirus protection needs there settings adjusted to accommodate certain keygens/cracks as it flags up as a virus & throws it into quarantine! Then you have to add to your whitelist ball ache crap.. & as for slowing machines down look in the background processes what the virus software has running.

If any of you posting interesting opinions is wondering: why this thread is so non-productive? why I feel kinda moving around in circles?
    The answer is:
    - Foster, a known argument-provoker troll, this thread creator. All-time record of bans in this forum. Currently using the accounts of @Incontro , @carmenrinda and probably more waiting for the former to be eventually banned again

    - @Radio , which gets along with him. Sometimes he gives legit opinions, half of the time he copy / pastes . Also kicked out from here though not even close to Foster. BTW, are you the former Wasgedn? (in his case, I don't remember his first account /handle)

Those two make half of the thread

Besides that informative detail, don't mind me. I'm just here for the show. And the popcorn

That's not quite right. If you have keygens, you have to turn off the antivirus software like Defender first, otherwise it will eat the keygen and you won't be able to use the keygen anymore.

After you have used the keygen, your software is registered and you don't need a whitelist because there is no virus or trojan in the software itself. Then turn Defender or your antivirus software back on.

The background process of a virus guard like Defender in Windows is always very high, Defender in Windows turns itself back on when you start the PC again. There are of course programs and information here in the forum on how to get rid of Defender.

What else can you do other than present yourself in a positive light?

What you are doing is this: you are devaluing others in order to increase your own value.

Use your brain and write a few comments without humor, otherwise I cannot take you seriously.

@TDK66, now you're talking about interfering and obsession, if you can't handle criticism or can't accept a different opinion, write more truths that are based on real knowledge and don't spread so much misinformation and half-truths.

This is also about assessing the value of knowledge and truths as well as tips for the reading users that are also correct and applicable.

Stop arguing with each other :guru: regarding security, whenever I make music I turn off my antivirus so that it doesn't accidentally delete my keygens, I love listening to keygen's music and the one from the elevator :lmao::hahaha::mad:

Why do you not use active and passive browser protection for just such a scenario?? Regular backup imaging is also a must with boxen placed on the internet. Doesn't sound like you're doing either of these simple preventive measures. If you had been you wouldn't have "fooked" all your files up...

Because there are so many similar threads like this one that only serve to conjure up the same sentiments over and over. This thread could have easily been shit-canned from the start by doing a simple search for previous threads of the same ilk. There would have been many to find.

one can do both, own multiple pcs and be interested in IT security, as a matter of fact its a prequisite, safety requires having more than one pc, so if one is down/attacked/destroyed, its merely a battle lost, not the entire war.

you can use a keygen inside a virtual machine, which is a sandbox insulating the actual machine from any problems inside the virtual machine. You can also run them in Wine on linux. If one dabbles in unknowns, it is sometimes best to purchase insurance first.

ahh buts its winter and rainy, and so easy to watch the snowball roll down the mountain yet again. If not for these amusements, we would be forced to be writing music, practicing music, or producing music.

it is these well trod paths, though full of mud and excrement, that will lead us into spring, and these follies will be forgotten. Leave us have these amusments, these dour souls with their repetitive reasoning, stirring the cauldrons of their bitter souls in public.

I find it better than sport or politics, more like watching animals given unlimited food stuffing themselves at the troff, waiting to see which end explodes first.

if you wish to continue to observe, I suggest you don't stand too near....

lack of money to upgrade perhaps? People are afraid to say “I’m poor” in this world we live in. I’m writing this in a MP3,1 (2008) with Catalina, my internet machine after she was retired from the studio. Would I like a new M4 Macbook Pro? Maybe.. but not enough money.. I move on

Right now Im writing this on a 11 years old HP EliteBook

    Specs:
    -Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
    -Intel Core i7 3630QM @ 2.40GHz - Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
    -16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz
    -Hewlett-Packard 17A7 mobo
-Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz) - 1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7570M (HP)
-232GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (SATA (SSD))

It has been my working horse for nearly everything in these 11 years and done the job brilliant untill now - I have had it opened twice to clean it of dust and change the thermal paste, thats all.

I have a bit of a feeling that the durability is probably a combination of the way the computer is constructed, the individual parts that sit in it and a good potion of luck.
My previous computers had a relatively short life, but that is mostly because I was very keen on having the latest technology. Furthermore, it is also quite limited how much the technology has improved in the last 5 - 10 years - even very cheap computers perform incredibly well these days.

I also have other computers that are dedicated to audio, video and photo production, but they are rarely used - mostly due to laziness. So they are only in use if I have large and very demanding tasks to be solved.

    Bottom line:
I think most of us can manage just fine with less smart and cheaper computers and save quite a bit of money that way.

my current oldest in use laptop is a 2007 acer aspire netbook, running windows xp.

I use it for reading books, and doing the budget in excel. I originally paid 600$ for it in 2007.

I've upgraded memory (it only takes 1.5gb of ram, 1gb module, 1/2 gb soldered on motherboard. I've replaced the keyboard, the touchpad and recently the computer died for good, so I bought another off ebay for 25$ and transfered ssd and all the upgrade parts to the new donor and I should be good for another decade or so.

so altogether around 725$ in that computer and 18 years of use, so

    725
    18 ÷
    --------------------------
$40.27 = cost per year of ownership
so divide by 12 months and thats

    12 ÷
    --------------------------
$3.35 per month, can't buy a pack of smokes for that these days...
not sure if you can buy a coffee for that these days, I usually brew mine at home..

most of my other laptops came in at less than 200$ each, they are all i5 or i7 windows 7 64 bit

I've used them for approx 5 years.
so the math on them is very similiar to the netbook

200 (purchase price and ram upgrade)
5 ÷ (years underneath my grubby paws)
    --------------------------
40 = cost per year of ownership

I own 4 of them so 160$ per year.
I spend about this much for groceries every 2 weeks.

and these are the computers I purchased. I received many free ones from company upgrades over the last few years. They mostly just pull the hard drives and scrap them. I rescue them, give them a warm home and some fresh electricity and they are comfy and waiting.

so yeah I'd rather have a dozen older computers, than 1 expensive new computer.

ACER ASPIRE ONE ZG5 - about the size of a hardback book, atom processor. 2-4 hr battery life with the wifi off. circa 2007 during the netbook craze..

it was a handy travel computer back in the day. used to print my boarding passes from this thing, check my flights, weather, directions etc. would fit in a backpack with plenty of room left over. With a large replacement battery it will run for around 8hrs, plenty of time to watch movies on the plane and easily fits on a table tray with room leftover for booze or cookies or cookies and booze...
