    Actually, I don't know many Doo-wop songs.
I'd like to know some recommended songs from people who are knowledgeable about Doo-wop (doowop, doo wop) or African-American music.

I'm a super passionate about Doo-wop, doowop, doo wop songs and style...
I'm writing a book on Doo-wop or better said on the 'Four-chords schemas'.

If you're just looking for beautiful songs do an online research and you'll find plenty...
just type in the word ‘doo-wop songs’. :winker:

IMP.: Not to be confused with an era called Doo-wop and the harmonic structure of some songs written in a certain style (which is what I write about in my book).

No, you don't have to apologise... you didn't do anything wrong, I'm not offended.

There are thousands of songs that belong to the doo-wop genre and writing down two or three names wouldn't help you, instead doing an online search will have you discovering hundreds of songs in no time.

If you want more information about just ask, I'll be happy to help if I can.

    I see.
    I understand.

I'll try and explore it myself and if there's anything else I'll come back here and ask questions.
Because you seem to know more.
    thank you!

I went on a doo-wop binge recently. I visited the Russian Site and searched "Doo wop collection" and downloaded a bunch of torrents. As ElMoreno said, it's a massive genre.

I got heavily into The Flamingos. The instrumental arrangements and vocal reverb of the I Only Have Eyes For You album have an almost narcotic feel. Glorious.

Frank Zappa did at least one album of Doowop. you could argue that some of Joe's garage has a bit of that as well.
one of my favorites is the Del Vikings, come and go with me:

someone needs to make a 7 minute remix of this with a drum break..

If you are going down that road you might want to try some of phil spector's adjacent music, like the Ronettes.
I still can't figure out how they could change outfits so fast between verses..

The Platters earned their status as one of the finest doo-wop groups through their elegant harmonies, refined arrangements, and timeless love songs. With a velvety baritone lead in Tony Williams and a strikingly beautiful female voice in Zola Taylor, The Platters exuded sophistication and romance in hits like "Only You (And You Alone)" and "The Great Pretender." They demonstrated a unique ability to shift seamlessly between smooth ballads and uptempo numbers, demonstrating the versatility and range of doo-wop music. By melding elements of pop, R&B, and even orchestral arrangements, The Platters set a high bar for doo-wop excellence.

By incorporating elements of R&B, soul, and even psychedelic rock into their sound, The Temptations expanded the possibilities of doo-wop music, paving the way for future generations of artists. +1 for that Flamingos album @FrankPig recommended earlier in the thread.

We had this album which my dad brought home one day from a second hand store. We had several of the songs from it on the jukebox ! Brings back memories of growing up with all kinds of music around the house constantly. It's a good compilation of the doo wop genre and how it developed and influenced rock n roll, soul, northern soul etc
