problem with these kinda tools is that it becomes generic pretty fast when everyone has access to it. well that what happens to modern music nowadays. one-finger phrases/arps/ vocal libs etc

 

More tools to undermine the requirement of creativity in music.

 

That's the key element: creativity (imagination).

 

You can load your own samples, as well as tweak the chords and arp etc

 

I don't find the graphics beautiful and inviting, but rather rather weird (possibly created by the AI) and I want to work with them.

I cannot stress enough how much I hate this trend. All kinds of "chord generators" (recent Kontakt 8, too) and every kind of gimmick that basically requires minimum effort or skill (music theory) to "create music". Basically turning the effort of composition and creativity into a sort of a video game.

All these are marketed as tools that are supposed to just "fuel the inspiration" but my take is always, no, these will be mostly used as is. And we'll hear these on the charts.

 

Music theory does not = skill. I have some friends who went to berklee, who are exceptionally nerdy, insanely smart, and can tell you everything there is to know about music theory, while they can barely even play an instrument, program a synth patch, or copy and paste in ableton. Meanwhile, i have friends who have never taken a music class in their life, who cant even tell you what chord they are playing or why, but they can SHRED whatever instrument they pick up, or know how to properly select sounds, program synths, pick the right tool for the job while mixing, and can out DAW anyone. Theres still a significant amount of effort required to get from "gimmicky chord generator" to a flushed out and released song.

Also, you know whats on the charts? whats been on the charts time and time again for decades now?

Its a chord progression. Midi tools generate chord progressions, not songs. Song are generated with sound selection, arrangement, songwriting, mixing, etc etc, in other words, skill. Knowing what tools to use, including midi generators, when, and why is a skill.

Chord generators like the ones found in kontakt, or scaler etc, are FUN. Try them out sometime, and maybe you will be less grumpy!

 

That's called skill and you can't learn it. The other is talent - you have to nurture it.

The charts are a money-generating industrial entertainment industry machine.

 

Here we go again with this predictable gatekeeping shit... you know it's not real and true music unless you composed and performed it on an oak flute you made with your own hands with tools fashioned from your euthanized dog's bones? Even recording that is suspect, how would we know you can really perform it again and again?

If you highly creative, skilled, talented, and successful professionals think this is in anyway competition to you, what does it really say about your own skills?

Looks like a fun toy, and fun toys are normally a great gateways to weird creations, especially for people with no pre-existing knowledge. Might have to give it a go just in case, this is something I'd probably recommend to somebody like my brother, who's a decent guitarist but just plays for his own kicks. Makes for a change playing along with records or using Guitar Pro.

 

I wonder how many time ppl will pretend being "artists" by using prompt AI, chords generators, copy/paste kits, straight samples from packs ...
Just by using DIRECT creations from OTHER ppl.

After that, the same ppl will complain about "music industry" being sh1t ... but contributing to it every day.
Take the top 10 Spotity/Youtube Music to taste it.

"Recreating" is creation.
Copy pasting is NOT art in any way.

The key factor is EFFORT.
You know ... that "far right" n4z1 word ?

ctrl C + ctrl V is NOT effort.
And never will.

If we can agree on this, we can use ANY tool as ... a tool.
Even prompt AI, as PART of the job.

If not, just continue copy/pasting and pretend "creating".
Rent over ... and i'm already out (already lost too much time with this running gag).

Studying what, exactly?

I guarantee that if you went to a music school (university level) as an instrumentalist, you're going to HAVE to play an instrument well. If you went as an engineer (mixing, production), maybe not then. But these are all very different things, so it depends. And as in any school, you need to choose to pursue different fields while there (not everything is included).

I sincerely doubt that, pal. Or, needless to say, without it sounding shit.

Of course. And technically, trained jazz musicians know basically the ins and outs of everything - but can't do a pop song even if they tried.

But also, I've been noticing a huge lack in the craft of songwriting. It does seem like sound matters more these days. And there are tons of really capable producers, who can create the sound of a Fleetwood Mac song to a tee, but the actual song underneath it is just an endless stream of melody ideas and multiple choruses without any creativity or structure, over a really bland & basic chord progression (let's say Am-F-C-G).

Yes, and who likes that? Do you? There was a time when it wasn't so. For example, Stevie Wonder's songs and chord progressions - and also, I'm guessing he went solely by ear, didn't know shit about any theory behind anything - are almost jazz standards compared to today, and they were charting "pop songs" in their day.

I don't hear anything spectacularly different from these chord / creativity tools, which in turn will mean that everything will sound even more the same as it does now.

 

Have you ever been to the FL Studio forum? Every third person there calls themselves a producer. One of them draws a few notes every day with the mouse in his piano roll and publishes it. And complains about how many hours he spent on it. Now everyone should admire him.

Then, of course, the song has to be on the Internet, because otherwise you don't exist and you're only representing yourself. You steal a few photos from photographers, use a few stolen samples that others have created and write a text that is grammatically incorrect and reflects the language of the street in terms of content.

With every new technological development, the laziness and convenience of people is supported. The smart phone has turned a large part of society into digital slaves. But they love it and above all their thinking is supervised, they are also often images of someone else.

Thinking and learning is done for them by AI and other software, a good example is the invention of the calculator.

 

Similar tools have been available for the best part of a decade, so getting triggered by an interactive construction kit plugin in 2025 appears both out of touch and excessively fragile.

 

This library is basically just UVI’s Playbox yet my hard drive awaits its arrival…
