i was the first one to vote over $10k, glad to see others are doing well too and others are making money on this forum. when i first voted the other day, i was the only one

though im not publicly going over my finances or doxing myself. since this doesnt seem like a regular Foster thread i will say, a large part of it is from money i invested from touring, i also make more than that from all of streaming alone

I think there is a problem with the structure of society. Society has been formed on the basis of bad criteria. If the criteria were designed correctly, human societies would have been different.
The criteria for revenue determination for different job groups must be re-planned from the beginning and based on the correct basis.

The purpose of this thread was balancing salaries and wages. It seems that artists and musicians have accepted their fate and are satisfied with the conditions they are in and are almost accustomed to.
If you go to the root of the problems, you will find that the salaries are set by the statesmen. How much a doctor receives or how much a hairdresser has a revenue are all determined by direct or indirect rules, and everyone has to obey it. If the wage rules do not change, the statistics will not change either.

I don't earn any money with music and live on about 900 euros a month. I own cheap hardware and get my software from the sister site. Every now and then I buy what I can afford and share it.

Because musicians are the idiots buying proverbial lottery tickets thinking what they do is going to make them rich, famous, and/or laid.

There's no way to monetize music because its value matches its scarcity: zero. Why would something hyper-abundant be worth anything?

No money --> Art will die.

I don't say this, history says:
If you look at different historical periods, you realize that when artists were financially funded, they have been able to create great arts, and if they do not receive enough money, they will eventually become a seller of fruit and groceries at best.

Because music has emotional or entertainment values and other values, too, if we use our imagination?
I feel like the argument of scarcity in this context is some kind of capitalist fairy tale.

What about the scarcity of digital products like spotify accounts or other subscription models? Or objects of speculation like bitcoin or shares in general?

Why even deny the value of music?
If so pls tell the makers of Rockstar Games that GTA6 doesn't need to have music in, because it has zero value.

Try to log into Netflix without paying or getting a password from someone who is paying. That's scarcity. Can you download a Bitcoin? Mine one for less than the cost of electricity and GPU? No luck? That's scarcity.

Creating GTA6 costs upward of $2 billion. That's why the market isn't oversaturated with AAA games, and people are still willing to pay significant money.

Music which has hit the Billboard has licensing value because it has cultural relevance. The music you made on your laptop does not, and the overwhelming majority of music we're talking about in this equation has value approaching zero because it's freely available or there are 1000 songs which are just as good which are.

Relatively no one is going to buy some bar band's classic rock CD when they can stream Zepplin on Youtube for free.

It's different every month. Never the same, so I can't put a value to it. It also depends on how hard I work at it at the time. You get good months, great months and really really bad months. It happens.

I dont thihk the average person is aware of the fact that to make a living soley from music alone isnt a simple case of>
write a track /release said track/rake in the money!
    Its really not this simple.
One sad thing but true as true can get is that releases are all about "Timing" Regardless if its sonic gold or complete Tripe!
Anyway, to make a living doesnt just mean youve a track released!! or your signed and release say 2 or even 3 tracks a month.
many many people i know in a similar position to myself will also have online tuition classes in sound design/sequencing/overall arrangment and structorial design etc etc
Write jingles, and every other paying odd job in the musical realm.
im sure some of you guys know of what i speak but its too early in the morning for a detailed comment from myself, apologies

Just because someone learns an instrument, writes a song or dabbles around with a DAW to upload a track to Spotify doesn't mean they are as highly skilled and in demand as the above professions or as intelligent as a software engineer, music is a leisure pursuit and not everyone needs it and most musicians don't appeal to the masses so wont be making a lot of money from it if at all.

I wrote down all the Hardware gear/equipment in general and added the desktop i bought in 2022.

Its quite a big hefty sum of money for me ... (not adding the plugins/software i have bought over the years), but its over a time span of 4 years now, so its okay.

Afterall its totally worth it, i really like turning on a hardware synth and start creating sounds and playing something ...
