I've just completed a project for a client - it's a collection of poems read by a male voiceover artist, which the client approved after submitting a demo. Now the client wants a female reader. I know the technology probably isn't there yet, but does anyone have a software recommendation to transforming male to female that might be fairly convincing?

 

Just speed the pitch up a tritone (6 semitones) and tell client if she doesn't pay then you'll send the reader to take money plus interest.

 

if just voice and not the phrasing/speech, then Replay or Applio - you'll have to download RVC voices separately but those are free offline apps

 

AI will do it most convincingly, but depending on your client I doubt they will be satisfied.

I suspect AI is now up to the task... I can't imagine any artificial method is going to be any better. You could fool around with using Melodyne to pitch transpose and formant change and maybe you'd get something but I kind of doubt it would be that great. I suspect AI would start to look pretty attractive as opposed to completely redoing the entire project.

 

Just tell the client that the voice artist identifies as female, and threaten to sue for misgendering.

 

SoundID VoiceAI is the best I've heard. I use it when I need a convincing female backup vocalist, based on a vocal part that I sing.
