    theres not an album ive listened too more than Loveless by My Bloody Valentine from 1991

    ---------=======---------
    i was born in the 90s, i didnt find out about this band till i was in high school. sure i liked the Nirvana's and Smashing Pumpkins and stuff but when i heard this song, i fell in love with underground music. this song single handedly sparked my journey into looking for and finding music that was more underground and overlooked. i couldnt believe i had never heard of them and they had such good songs; better than a lot of what i found championed for the 90s. this song changed my music listening deeply and was important in the taste i have now

    ---------=======---------
    i found this song around when i first started songwriting, playing instruments and singing. i was in a band called "Shady Doctors" with my friends and we use to play at parties in the skateboarding scene, skate shops, having showings in public storage units. i remember when i heard this, not long after we recorded our first demo, i started paying attention to production. i loved how everything was so soft and warm and i wanted my music to sound like that; and he has a voice that was more smooth like mine, while still being cool and masculine. this album as whole but from the first track, i was like this is fire

    I thought I'd look at the Billboard rock and hot 100 charts for #1 songs in the 90s and post my favorite song from it and... it's all garbage. Obviously there was good music in the 90s but it didn't hit #1.

    Nothing Compares 2 U?

    Out of interest I looked up the list myself ... if you dislike RnB it's a difficult list for sure ... I don't want to miss a thing from Aerosmith being one of the rockiest songs on the list says a lot. Interesting.

    [EDIT] Maybe you can look up the list from UK number one singles and post your favorite song from it? Lots of garbage, too, but it is the more diverse list.

    [EDIT2] I looked up the list from germany, too ... had to stop the second entry ... severe flashbacks :bleh:

    I like Sinead a lot but that's a not a particularly great song (imo). I should look at the RnB list, I was only thinking rock... also you make a good point, it's definitely worth looking at UK charts and some other countries...

    Totally agree with you on Loveless, was friends with them after they recorded this, from the 80's (sorry, op) played on a similar London circuit.

    From the 90's, this springs to mind: An absolute snorter, imo.

    @Midge F : thats fucking dope man, i wish i could hear them play some of it live. i tried last time they were playing a few years back but shit was sold out every time. a lot of great music came out of that time period though and scene (didnt know they had a garage rock phase either)

    did you ever get cool with Lush in the scene? im not like a mega fan but this song has helped me a lot in life when my mood gets grim, its so uplifting

    either way thats still cool, respect

    As for MBV, This was at the time before Bilinda joined on vocals and, yep, they were doing a kinda garage/Stooges type thing and had the same manager as my first band. Later on, we played at a party in their squat in North London which was a legendary night.

    Funny you should mention Lush. They were also friends with MBV drinking at similar pubs in Camden at the time. Miki was actually an ex of mine and was in my second band for a few years before forming Lush with her old mate Emma and flatmate Chris (RIP) Miki actually asked me to join them when they lost a guitarist and I politely declined as I wasn't too fond of their early music. A true sliding-doors moment as my band split up shortly after and I f*cked up royally by getting a proper job...I really miss those old days! :(

    Never saw Lush live, I was proper jealous and bitter as I was sat in an office having my spirit crushed :rofl:but that's a gorgeous track, 'Lit Up'. Miki, like myself loved the Cocteau Twins. Anyway, she sent me her autobiography a while back and still seems the lovely peep she was back then.:yes:

    Thank you for this story, makes me quite nostalgic! Playing in bands can be a bittersweet affair for sure. Split is one of my all time favourite shoegaze album, "Desire Lines" one of my favourite songs ... it has those sadcore qualities to it I just can't resist.

    Speaking of sadcore. "Have you forgotten" by Red House Painters is a song I can't get tired of. This is the album version, not the one from the Vanilla Sky soundtrack.
