    “ Grammarly” British alternative

Hi. Do you have a British alternative to American Grammarly? Grammarly uses American English and sometimes gives incorrect corrections for British writers.

I use LanguageTool. It's good. Try the free version, you might choose to purchase premium after a while. It's cheaper than Grammarly.

I have just tried LT. It looks OK. But why OK only… Does this sentence have a mistake:
“There are just few things there”? I mean FEW and not A FEW what means more than just FEW, right? Grammarly and LT indicates it as a mistake. Why?

For English grammar, the proper way would read
"There are just a few things"
    Just the way it is...

It is inconsistence of the systems if they indicates it as a mistake. It is not a mistake. Few/a few or little/a little are proper grammar forms. Hmm… What if they mistaken us in more serious cases?

@FrankPig I have set it up to British

@ptpatty I might be common in spoken language. But in written language there is a difference between few and a few. And both forms exist.

I'm a bit late to this, but if you're still having trouble...

You could try a little change to "only a few" instead of "just...".. To see if it flags that as an error.

I say this because 'just' can have other meanings too. Example. as an adjective:
"There were the Just Few and the Unjust Few.
(Here, also, Few is working as a noun.).

As in The Just Few were honourable and lawful people and the Unjust Few were great big cheating, criminal baxstards.:)

    just /jŭst/
    adjective
    1. Honorable and fair in one's dealings and actions: synonym: fair.
      "a just ruler."
      Similar: fair
    2. Consistent with what is morally right; righteous.
      "a just cause."
    3. Properly due or merited.
      "just deserts."
another thing to try is simply dropping the just and writing “There are few things there”.
It depends on your context and what you are trying to indicate.

English, eh? What a feckin' minefield.
    Good luck.

    Did you activate “Picky Mode?”

One thing you might like about LanguageTool is that it automatically detects the use of American English, British English, Australian English, etc, as you're typing and asks if you would like to switch.
