How incompetent must a distributor like PA be, to collab with SPL and then post sound examples for comaprison that are not loudness matched and differ probably by more than 3 dB LUFS?

 

Its by design, not incompetency. Lures would be buyers who dont know any better.

 

Without some extreme settings I can hardly hear ON/OFF with this shit let alone the difference between the SPL and MBS. Not sure if I should envy the golden ears screaming "night and day difference!!11!!". I'm okay with being half deaf, saves time trying all these invisible enhancers.

 

I own make believes and am sad to report that i found SPL's is better.

 

I cannot say how embarassing I find the discussions on Gearspace. One guy claimed MixHead would sound like a clipper and received 7 or so thumb ups...

 

Who is not producing with placebo doses and lots of imagination?

Ignore 99% of all forum discussions and YT "reviews".

tip: put three plugins in a row at realistic settings, to exclude mood bias.

Hearing saturation and compression takes time and experience (plus a decent monitoring setup).

 

Part of the appeal of the plugin is that it gives you more headroom without shitting your sound. It's not very aggressive unless you push it into clipping. I do find it gives some pleasant saturation, but it is subtle (like Softube Tape and unlike Arturia J-37).

 

To me it sounds like Magneto v1.5.

Thats because Magneto is modelled after the same unit

Then steinberg, cube, spl & whomever else rehashed that code. Quite a remarkable career. TC Electronic and then reasearch at Adobe. I find it funny that he quotes "some research work in audio restoration" the period working the Spectral Design stuff.

 

Did some doctor measurements.
Even the intermodulation distortion is practically identical.
For better visualization, when the lines are overlapping, I reduced the output of one plugin about 1 dB to show both measurements.
