@macros mk2 : nah youre all good man, you just gotta work on your breathe control and pitch the most; ive heard A LOT worse, its not bad. like i remember one time i was playing in Berlin. my good friend shes a professional DJ that lives out there, she threw like a small party at her place while i was there. so some girl she was cool with and invited was talking to me about some shit, like whatever, she was cute and friendly from our conversation. but then she randomly busted out singing one of my songs to me when i was responding to the person talking to me next to her. i mean like to the max yo; like if she was alone in the car type shit

i couldnt look at her, i was fighting for my life not to laugh at in her face. cause she clearly really liked the song but the butchery was diabolical. it was so cringe and awkward and she was so committed and serious in a way that was hard to watch; but funny as fuck. ive never heard worse singing in my life, idk wtf she thought was gonna happen from that. when she was finished though, everyone around us was quite, like looking in their cups and shit; my DJ friend came up to her and was like, ”hey you gotta go.” lol

so yeah, theres levels too it. i wouldnt say your singing is bad, youre listenable for the most part, i disagree with Lois on relying on melodyne or autotune, its worth training your voice and ear, especially if you WANT to sing, like you seem too. i think its cool your stepping out of your comfort zone though, wasnt expecting art pop; but it has a slight chamber music vibe that matches the artwork. that harp doesnt sound too bad either in tone; but you can tell that someone isnt playing harp by the way its being played if that makes sense, whoever sampled that harp did good though in capturing its tone. nice job tho, definitely worth practicing your singing in your alone time imo, singing just feels good honestly and its a valuable skill, ESPECIALLY if you want to sing, id encourage you to nurture that

You misrepresent me, that's not what I meant. In a particular take that well captures the spirit, captures the vibe, nudging a few notes is fine by me. I would never tell a person not to sharpen their skills and their craft and have always championed working towards perfection. Recording by oneself though to me is different than performing live to an audience. Editing by adding effects and processing such as compression, EQing, aligning a slight misstiming of a percussion part or the tweaking of a vocal after recording the performance is fair game. To me it's drastically different than playing with other musicians where there is chemistry happening as the many become one and there's more of a dance 'tween musicians where the music is necessarily human and alive. When I'm recording alone in a room my object is to magically, with the help of technology, multiply the one into what might eventually encompass and make sound the many.

Always of course sing if you sing, play what you play, and because you have no other choice as you love it to pieces, that is the music you do, you'll hone it and buff it, make it shiney and glow...as much as you can, every day as you go.

I wasn't able to take part in the last contests, although I would have liked to. I guess it's about creating music from pictures.
Somehow that doesn't suit me, maybe it's the adhs.
However, this picture has managed to inspire me. So I'll probably be taking part this time too.:)

So here I'm sleep depriving myself again to get this done, maybe to get in tune with Remedios' painting.

@macros mk2 love your track man, I wouldn't dare to sing a note, I use my son for that XD.

@Aidene really like that how start deriving and then returns on topic over 4:00. Nice touch for a vey calm song.

@Grape Ape lot's of early Pavement vibes there, missed a voice but hey, I said I don't sing either so...XD

Here is my take on it.

    nice track Demloc!

    here's my track

I saw the man in the painting as having been able to connect through the aether with people he loved who are now dead. they communicated through music.

@Demloc very cosy and contemplative ! It feels like an invitation for both intro and extrospection. Very cool rythm, and i love the addition of birds. Excellent atmosphere, so well defined you feel like being in the room, and the voice... superb, love it !

@capitan crunch haha that's an original take, now that you mention it i get what you mean. Spooky one, you don't really know if you should feel sad or not. You couldn't even call it hope either. It has a crunchiness you're pretty sure to have on radiowaves that can reach the underworld, "il y a de la friture sur la ligne, comme on dit !"

    Hesperus is Phosphorus, Light bearer.

Everything begins in wombs of water
Life starts budding and soon, growing by this nourishing soil, a Flower is blooming
And the living is called to duplicate itself
Then wind blows, spreading the newly created Seeds
For Life forever expands, until fire comes up and the dice of creation can again be thrown
So is the balance of harmony maintained

Water samples come from the mountain in Chile and our delicious rain here in Belgium, birds and insects are from my garden. I don't know the name but the wind thingy comes from my mother's garden while other raw wind samples are a mix of mine and some from BBC library (mine often end up with a low end saturation..). Same for the thunder, i didn't manage to get a lightning strick clear enough yet, so it's both BBC and some of mine. Then the fire sample as the end comes from my wood stove.

The track ended up a weird combination of 3/4 and 4/4 and includes 303, 808 & 909, the ever so sweet Osirus, the Grid, everything well modulated then the nice play of knob twisting.

Hey all, works been shitty crazy this week for me so haven't checked out some of the latest submissions. Will get to it tonight or tomorrow, got Sunday Monday off. Looking forward to that and having time to relax!

Was wondering if peeps here wanted to move the next date from March 1 to Feb 1? Might screw over someone's epic composition they've been slaving away at, but also it might be everyone's pretty much submitted what they want to this one. Thoughts?

Ps gonna make a post later for some additional info on the artist and a page with her collected work. Pretty cool style and story imo

Sorry, I'll comment on those entries that I haven't tomorrow.

About moving the end date from March 1st to February 1st, no can do. I booked the London Symphony on Monday 2/17 from 8:30 am until 2:30 for rehearsal, and for recording, the next day I scheduled them between 1:30 pm until 4:30 that afternoon. If I cancel I'm out out about £185,000 not including catering, the mobile recording truck and Daniel Lanois's salary plus the four engineers he's bringing along (those classical players eat like animals in a zoo, so I also had to hire a special clean-up crew just to deal with them).

@macros mk2 : i feel you, its up too you though. youve done a good job hosting and picked a great picture. you also shouldnt have to be responsible for the thread longer than anyone else

personally, i also think its best to let go of trying to line it up with the 1st and just do the month like usual. also this is the first one to inspire Lemmy, id like to hear how he interprets it since hes new to this life

That must be their moment of silence to support the families of unemployed cowbell players across the world.
