R.I.P. - Barry Goldberg passed away on January 22, 2025

Barry Goldberg was "one of the most prominent keyboard players on the American blues scene from the late 1950s onwards," according to the Wiki entry on the musician.

Colleague Markus reviewed the album It's All My Vault in 2011 and there you can read about some of the big names that Barry played with. When you are mentioned in the same breath as Dylan, the Stones, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Steve Miller, Charlie Musselwhite, Harvey Mandel, Nick Gravenites, Robbie Robertson, Mitch Ryder, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Butterfield, Stephen Stills or Al Kooper, then you can guess that a great man has left the stage.

Barry, who was introduced to the blues by Mike Bloomfield and later founded the band Electric Flag with him and other legends, was also a film and TV composer and I immediately remember "Return Of The Living Dead III" and "Captain America". The "Newport Folk Festival concert" with Bob Dylan will certainly remain unforgettable.

Younger blues fans will know Barry from the 'supergroup' The Rides, which, in addition to Goldberg, consisted of Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Stephen Stills.

According to people close to the artist, Barry died in a hospice after a ten-year battle with cancer.
He was 83 years old.
