Could you please give an example that we have progressed in music? Send a video or a music track that shows that this generation we are in makes better songs than the previous generations. Try that the things you send are examples of productions in the years 2024 or 2023.
    Thanks!

I personally think that music died out at the end of the 20th century and we are now living in its afterlife. Many efforts were made to revive music and bring it back to this world by using technology. But so far it has not been successful.
Maybe sometime on the day of resurrection, the music will return again. Maybe ...
We have to wait until then.

This is a little bit silly, to be frank. "Better" is entirely subjective and so any reply will not prove or show you anything. For example, in my opinion, Sigur Ros are better Led Zeppelin, and to me that may suggest this generation is potentially making better music than the last, but that's just one artist against another, randomly chosen by me. However, the majority will probably disagree with me, and that's fine, because we just have different tastes and opinions, i.e. "subjectiveness". And who decides what is the "good" or "best" of the last and this generation to benchmark against each other to determine whether there has been any progression? Asking for objective evidence on a subjective topic will get you nowhere fast and hence why I suggest the question itself is a little bit silly!

I think you're onto something, I had a look at all the music available in the '60s and '70s and this was the best I could find.

I'd say we've utterly managed to smash the boring 12-EDO tonality by incorporating various global tonalities, microtonalities, and other xenharmonic fuckery (such as Partch's 11-limit tuning and Carlos' Alpha/Beta/Gamma scales). What does this mean in practice? A whole metric fuckton of more notes available to composers.

Fuck, I'm waiting for some clever cookie to come up with 31-EDO microtone based system, but also providing just temperament for each of the tones. I'm guessing the biggest problem impeding this progress would be coming up with a playable instrument/controller managing to incorporate all of the tones, but also provide a switchable temperament, not to mention somehow encompass string resonances and possibly slight stretch tuning.

Ah, surely we all know the drill by now? There is no question, are there most definitely are no satisfactory answers. When it comes to, umh, these threads zero progress has been made.

That is by design. This is another attempt at "the art of trolling."

These threads are entirely disingenuous, intentionally ambiguous and purposely misleading. It's the same formula every time: Pick a contentious but valid, highly nuanced subject that is entirely subjective (meaning there can never be a resolve), reduce it to some oversimplified binary, then lead with emotive questions or statements without ever qualifying one's personal position or adding any functional value to the discussion beyond provocation for more replies.

Not surprised to see this, as the same flimsy divisive rhetorical devices deployed in the "which DAW will take over the market" thread ran out of steam, though due to the nature of the beast, I imagine 13 pages is deemed a success.

So here we are again with OP dopamine farming off the same grift.

Having said all that, the disclaimer is, the tactics deployed intentionally by trolls can also manifest naturally in those with certain types of psychological states or stages of cognitive development. Things like naivety, arrogance, false humility, binary comparisons of complex subjects, reductive or circular reasoning, victim mentality, lack of tangible evidence or fact, and so on. This is why some get accused of being "Foster" when actually they just might be genuinely displaying similar traits in their communication style.

For the uninitiated, this is a demonstration of the "Foster" mythos in action.

    ----------

The motivations here seem relatively benign or just corny. I used to mod another music forum and had to deal with some really malicious attempts at this bs, which became utterly exhausting/distressing for members who didn't recognise what was happening.

Between any two notes there always lies another note. This is a limitless infinity.

can't. Modern production processes have actually made stuff sound worse due to loudness wars...

There aren't any. Except for some fusion, progressive and jazz that are still being done by older artists which doesn't fit your criteria.

yeah its called a "rest", it gives your brain time to perceive the sequence of notes and try to find a pattern. Its what humans do, patterns. its faster to learn a snippet that repeats, rather than learn an entire sequence, especially if its very repetitious.

a note without a rest is a drone, useful to play off of but rather boring by itself...
