I'm about to test this on one of my rarely used laptop to see what's up with this variant I often see people recommending. Anything I need to know before installing? Any limitations, any performance issues, any incompatible stuff? Any view on these would be good!

Using his version of WIN11, in my opinion and experience it’s great.

Haven't used Win 11 versions, but I can confirm Win 10 ones work like a charm. Although lately I've been using X-Lite.

The only advise would be to not install the super-lite version, if it still exists. That one is the only one you need to know very well what's missing. The others are 100% compatible as far as I know.

    Enjoy

As an ignoramus who's interested in a performance enhancer, can GS be installed over a vanilla Windows 11 without losing files, etc??

I have been using Windows 10 super-lite since a long time and haven't faced any problem so far. It's really good. Very few things in background and consumes only around 1gb of ram while idle. I would say, it feels like using skinned Windows XP.

install is less hassle than legit W11 install (no artificial TPM/platform requirements, no online account fuckery...), but I did have some problems on certain niche hardware PC specs,
builds are slimmed down so some features are simply missing and not always straightforward to bring back (atmos support, printers, uwp store backend etc...),
any drivers required should still be installed from official manufacturer sites like on regular Windows (chipset, graphics, audio etc...),
any OS updates and bugfixes are limited to those specifically provided by GhostSpectre, by default they're all paused/postponed,
some GS builds may include StartAllBack (or StartIsBack, for W10) which is a neat feat, but again its updates are somewhat limited to GS updates,
many UI/perf improvements are done out of the box, so you may "loose" those if you change theme or make new user account later

From the few FPS comparison videos I've watched on YT, AtlasOS is better all-round.

I rock Ghost Spectre meself and for some of my clients. No bullshit Win11 version.
Perhaps you might want to post your Fortnite record too? hahaha... I remember you saying this forum ain't so friendly. How can it be when you post about fps and concerning a games optimized Win mod in an audio forum miss... I 've tried Atlas and it's a whole patch over vanilla Win installation. Too much fuss for less and doesn't fully do away with telemetry for concerns of updates, game anti-cheat etc.
But hey screw that, if that's you on the pic please allow me the cringe to say you are allowed and excused over anything :beg:

I mean, I also used the super-lite versions and no problem, but...
... this also may happen. But less likely if you install the regular lite

You sound offended. Thanks for proving my point.

If Ghost Spectre is better than AtlasOS, then that's great. However, that doesn't line up with the few YT videos that I personally have seen, as previously stated.

Atlas OS uses some sort of online tethered "playbook" junk to do it's installs. Personally I do not need more tethered crap to the internet. Just give me an OFFLINE ISO image that I can save to my local deployment share and be done with it. That's all I need. I do not want/need to be tethered to the internet for the purpose of doing new build. It's too risky - before I put a new build on the internet it has to undergo rounds of reverse engineering before I deem it safe for use.

You can grab the ghost toolbox and use it offline for POST install options like adding defender (if you wanted defender A/v, the install defaults to sans defender A/V but the Firewall is enabled), disabling updates, etc...

I could not attest to specific frame rate advantages because I am not a gamer. Although the super-lite GS builds are exactly that - Super-lite. You're getting every advantage that the OS has to offer - crap free. Of course there are always POST install tweaks you can apply to make it even faster. As I said yesterday the windows OS (any build of win10 or 11) is NOT H.265 ready. You have to either install the pay-for ms store thing :dont:, or install the open libde265 codecs  to get os wide H.265 functionality.

Not at all. And how on earth would you conclude this lol. I'm happy as a bee miss. See, your point is a million miles from proven haha. You present no hard evidence in a forum full of engineers, musicians and producers. If i sound anything it should be sarcastic, nothing more nothing less. I would only be offended if you accused me of anything and you are civil alright, so why should i be. Anyway.
Your avoiding a direct answer as to wth do game fps have to do in an audio forum proves my point. Out of place dear. But as i said... you can say anything np.
Oh and i lol @ yt videos on AtlasOS made by gamers, they have nothing in relation to audio workstations. And fyi, i'm a passionate gamer myself as well. Atlas is promising but because as mentioned it's a mod that relies on frequent updates to stay relevant and compatible with each season's current games, it's a nono for audio ws. More over if you are the try before type of user.
    Cheers

    Yeah, it's a shocker.
Opinions from those who have extensively tried something can't possibly be trusted compared to a few YT videos about gaming framerate.
    Are you for real?

Yeah, it downloads and installs Microsoft Visual C++ plus gives you the option of choosing one of four internet browsers.

I didn't say anything about users being untrustworthy. I'm not sure what you're referring to.

    A simple comment such as:

Has really been blown-up and turned into something else. Maybe we can all just let it go. If Ghost Spectre is the best option, then that's great. I don't have an issue. I've only commented about what I have seen for myself. Others have also commented (in the YT videos) that they prefer AtlasOS. That's all. It's not a big deal. Let it go.
