Hello all,

I have some audio files with speech on it that I would like to transcribe into a document.
I have tried several options, one of which was Gmail and Google Docs: you can print what you speech, but....only in English.
Problem: my language is Dutch so this won't work.

I tried Google translate but there is a limit and also copy and paste each text fragment is somewhat cumbersome.

So now I am looking for tips how I can transcribe Dutch audio files into a document.
Does anybody know about a website or program where you can upload audio files? If possible for free.
I estimate that the total of pages my audio files are is about 20-30.

If you don't mind messing around with the command line: "whisper" (OpenAI) is really quite excellent - for English at least; language models for Dutch are also available.

To run this, you need to pick an implementation of whisper (whisper, whisper.cpp, faster-whisper, insanely-fast-whisper, ..) and check installation instructions for that particular implementation.

I use faster-whisper-xxl for Windows which handles the tedious stuff by itself (download the correct language models, extract audio from video, convert audio to appropriate formats, ...).

You might want to try cloud hosted instances of whisper first, but as always with free AI on the web, coin toss between hit or miss:

find a bi-lingual dutch person, pay them a few guilders and perhaps a gin or 2, perhaps you make a friend and get you goal accomplished as well.

Thanks. I tried it with a test file. It uploads and then stays forever stuck at 100%. The "Create" button stays grayed out. Nothing happens.
Maybe I am doing something wrong. Did you get it working?

Unfortunately. it is a very mediocre PC, 7 years old with an i5 and 16 GB of RAM with onboard videocard. So, no. Not at all.
But I like your hat....

The first site Maestra does not work. It stays forever in "your file is getting ready". BTW, my test file is 18 seconds.
The second site is working. Although you can only do 5 minutes, it works rather good. So I will try that one.

 

Thanks. Not so good in command line stuff, even though I am a Linux user.....

Whispergui - Strange one: does not work with my Google account.
Huggingface - Does work, but not so good.
Whisperapi - Does a good job!
Freesubtiltes - Does not work, file is not getting uploaded. I tried several times.

Overall: seems that Whisperapi is a winner!

 

Glad I could help out Paul. The AI ones I have used work pretty well but they tend to get stuck uploading sometimes. Probably traffic related. Maybe try late at night or early morning.
