R.I.P. - Manfred Schütz (SPV, M.i.G. Music) passed away

Manfred Schütz, founder of the SPV label and distributor as well as the M.i.G. Music label, died on January 3, 2025 at the age of 74 after a long illness. Schütz opened his first record store in the mid-seventies and followed it up with several more by the end of that decade. SPV GmbH was founded on January 1, 1984, and worked both as its own label and as a distributor for record companies such as Roadrunners Records, Noise Records, Nuclear Blast and Century Media.

During the 25 years under Manfred Schütz, SPV was considered the leading distributor in heavy metal and acts such as Motörhead, Alice Cooper, Fury In The Slaughterhouse, Whitesnake and Simply Red released through the German company. M.i.G. concentrated, among other things, on re-releases of the WDR Rockpalast shows and also on new editions of the progressive and – if you like – Krautrock bands from the seventies.

    Rest in peace, Manfred.
