Why on earth would you even consider 24H2 at this point in time. They literally stopped rolling out 24H2 (for some affected systems) at the end of November to fix (some of) the bugs they introduced.

    Ubisoft games are still fucked.
    Anti-cheat is still fucked.
    Auto-HDR is fucked again.

    Plus random shit that's fucked.

What are users hoping to achieve with the new update? Word must have gradually gotten around that Microsoft Updates sometimes simply deletes your favorite programs, changes the appearance again and again depending on the mood of the boss, so that it takes days for you to get used to it. So when I read what was supposed to change, I decided to turn off updates and leave the Windows Update world forever.

As a musician who is currently working on a project, you should avoid updates of any kind anyway.

Get the GhostSpectre version of Win 11 Compact. He updates your windows for you and I've been using his version of windows since 10 and have never had any problems with windows crashing or programs not working. Also, no bloatware and windows updates blocked. You update through his app. You can have it with Defender or not. Been running all my audio software since then and have never had problems. His version is streamlined and fast. Try it.

I can not get it even if I want it. I would like to update it the Windows Update way and not manually force it but for some reason I'm not getting that update. 24H2 should fix the performance problem with AMD CPUs

As I understand it, it's only offered up in Windows Update if you have hardware IDs than they are not having issues with generally. If you have a component that is still having issues, then it's not offered up. Or so I read on Reddit.....the well of truth that it is

just download the full ISO/installer for 24H2 and run it as upgrade (keep everything) - obviously if your PC doesn't meet those pesky official requirements, you'll have to do some adjustments else the upgrade won't continue

I'll manually apply the latest cumulative roll-up to an image when building out a new machine, but then turn OFF all autonomous updaters on windows builds as it's all a rouse anyway. Those things simply serve to completely mess up or change your stuff on a whim and I won't put up with it. That's not even counting in all the telemetry that changes hands on a "automatic" update session...

I'm mainly curious to find out how you (and others) have been dealing with the seemingly very limited backward compatibility of "win11" in general? I installed an image of it by mistake on a new machine and I found it impossible to deal with since it would kind-of, sort-of, run older softwares, but made a right good mess of a lot of it. I'm not talking about "ancient" 5-10 year old softwares, I'm referring to stuff maybe just a couple of years old. I quickly ditched win11 due to it's apparent very limited software gamut. Installed win10 images instead and noticed that dealing with and installing needed third party software was much easier. This phenomenon seems to be getting worse with every iteration of windows they put out.

Yes! You are SO right. The only reason I'm still using it (win) is because it is still malleable, from a user standpoint, to be able to apply enough reverse engineering (R.E.) to it to make it usable and stable. Although with each new version/update they are striving to make this process more difficult. Which is another reason I do not subscribe to auto-updates. Internet facing machines require more R.E. to accomplish the task, but it's still possible to turn off/disable all the crap that makes it annoying and simply use it as the tool it is.

For me with audio and video production machines that are running windows, they NEVER see the internet. With the correct amount of R.E. applied they can be very usable and stable.

My permanently offline DAW computer is running a minimised version of Windows that is frozen frozen in time, and I never have any problems with it.

I installed Win 11 24H2 some days ago, even as an upgrade from Windows 10 without losing my Apps and Data.
Studio One 7 works awesome with IoStation24c, Behringer UMC404 192k, Esi Usb Soundinterface.
Omnisphere 2.8, Current 2, ANA2, WavesPlugs, Pigments, Falcon and more.
No Dropouts or anything so far.

I used O&O ShutUp to disable telemetry bloat.
    Wintoys to configure it.

And in addition my Online Games seem to run better too.

i've been using 24H2 since mid december without a single problem. If your using a DRAMless NVME like the SN770 as your system drive though you might want to check for a firmware update before upgrading.

I just checked which version of Windows I'm using, and yes, I'm using 24H2 and wasn't even aware of it.

It just auto-updated and everything kept running flawlessly. lol

Honestly, for old guys like me, who have witnessed the entire history of personal computing, Windows 11 is amazing. In my opinion, it's the best Windows version so far. It just works.

I like Linux too, and I've tried countless distros over the years, but I don't have time to research super complex command-line solutions for the simplest problems anymore. I'll try Linux again when they implement a major, revolutionary UX update.

I'm using 24H2 for some A/V productions - using MAGIX Vegas Pro and bunch of (mainly Izotope) VSTs - on a secondary workstation with almost no (main) issues.

Anyway - as any M$ releases - it's full of bloatware and highly unoptimized.

That's why, as already stated in this other discussion, I've pushed - and of course I'm actively collaborate - for the making of a creator-oriented open source Windows optimizer (playbook) called Creosynth (latest version here).

I've also collected "some" other open source Windows optimization resources in TWEAKERS page in my Opendows project.

    Enjoy.

I use 24H2 with AtlasOS, Chris Titus Tech Utility and AdGuard (Premium.) I'm happy with it. I don't have any issues.

i just did the offline upgrade from the desktop. feels snappier. no probs on amd here with audio and gaming. great release imho. and of course, i ran the latest revios thingy on top. i swear things opening/closing faster. btw revios playbook disables windows defender, that speeded up things big time. my pc is probably full of viruses but i dont care, i run windows for 10 years without defender/protection. happy dayz
