Hey everybody, when recording at home, I plug my guitars direct into the instrument input of the audio interface (M Audio Fast Track USB at the moment)and I use various VSTs and amp sims available on the planet. *yes*:

I'm just curious to know if I could use some sort of "preamp" plugins by Nebula (or the ones by Henry Olonga) on my guitar track just to "enhance" the dry signal of my guitars.

Just want to add some character to the "signal". (Well, I trust my ears though :grooves: )

Suggest me some nice Nebula preamp libraries or any other available!

Obviously there are a lot of possibilities, but you must know one thing first: Nebula's algorithm comes with huge latency, so if it's not suited for direct play/monitoring.

You could try thess ones as a beginning:

Henry Olonga NV Replica Pre into The Console Strip
Henry Olonga AV Twenty 22 Pre 192 khz For Nebula

If your DAW allows it, remember to position Nebula as Pre.

That means I have to keep Nebula first in the plugin chain? :wow:

Yes exactly, like if it was an external hardware

Common things for (rocky) guitars are the vintage API 312 (AYP by Henry) and the Neve73. But they are subtle. They really start to shine when you do them on a lot of tracks.

A pre is - in the real world - used as a microphone preamp, and thus comes after your speaker/cabinet emulation in the amp-sim world.

You're free to try it before of course, but 'normally' it will be guitar -> pedals (vst) -> amp sim and speaker emulation -> mic pre -> tape -> console -> compressors / eq's.

dipje You are right. The preamp should come after all the amp sims and so.
When I wrote before, I meant before EQ and any console treatment. But I recon the way I wrote it could bring confusion.

I understand that the question is about Nebula, so I wont mention anything else, but honestly there are a lot of good other ways to get good preamps sounds for DI guitars.
