im only kidding, but yah, TDR sort of claiming FabFilter ProQ is just borrowed techniques from TDR Nova. Translated from telegram via google translate:

A few days ago we updated TDR Nova. The main reason for the update is that on Mac OS Sonoma, due to some incompatibility, after some time of work, “garbage” began to appear on the interfaces of our plugins. In picture 2, there is a screenshot of “Hammer” with such an effect. The error is clearly related to bitmap/raster processing, but since we have long been planning to remake the graphical interfaces to vector ones, it seems that the right time has come.
Vector interfaces look great on high-resolution monitors, and also allow you to easily scale the image according to your tasks (we have not yet enabled free scaling, leaving the classic modes: 100%, 125%, 150%, but nothing prevents you from adding it now). TDR Nova has a slightly changed appearance (see picture 1), in my opinion, it has become slightly “modernized”.
In addition, the update includes minor fixes that have already accumulated. The most serious thing is that in dynamic mode, when the band passes through 0 dB, that is, from “plus” to “minus” or vice versa, there was an audible click. It’s strange that no one has told us about it until now (and we ourselves haven’t noticed it). It wasn’t in the first version of the plugin, but then we optimized the parallel filter engine, and it appeared with some update.
We’ve been thinking about releasing a fundamentally new version of the plugin, Nova II, for a long time, and then, in connection with the release of FabFilter Pro-Q4, the topic came up again. And I remembered a few interesting stories.
The first version of the plugin, called Nova-67P, was released in August 2014, that is, more than 10 years ago. At that time, I was attracted by the concept of parallel equalizers, and at some point I thought that it would be quite natural to insert a full-fledged compressor with the usual parameters Threshold, Ratio, Attach, Release into each equalizer band.
In November 2015, more than a year later, the first version of the TDR Nova plugin (and TDR Nova GE) was released. During the development process, we argued a lot about the graphical interface, and as a result, the first version had such a “heavy” GUI rendering that the entire processor could be practically “captured” by the software formation of the necessary pixels (hardware acceleration was not used) so that even the DAW did not receive control, and it was impossible to press the “Play” or “Stop” buttons. In 2018, FabFilter Pro-Q3 was released, which included dynamic bands. The story is that one of our mutual friends asked the FabFilter developers to add dynamic bands “like Nova” to Pro-Q, which they did. Interestingly, earlier in FabFilter Pro-Q2, which was released in August 2014, the Auto-Gain function was added, “borrowed” from SlickEQ (released in March 2014). It is also interesting that at some point we talked to the developers from FabFilter and exchanged licenses for products - they gave us their licenses, and we gave them all ours. So I have a “gift” Pro-Q3. It’s a pity that this gift does not apply to the Pro-Q4, so I only saw the Pro-Q4 in reviews.
If we talk about the functions in Nova II, then I thought of the following. Initially, the Nova-67P plugin was seen as a “channel strip”. That is, it is added to each track and is a regular equalizer connected to a regular compressor. But if suddenly these functions are not enough, then with one click of the mouse button another compressor is hooked to any equalizer band - it turns into a dynamic one. By adding more and more new bands, the plugin gradually turns into a multi-band compressor, but only without a typical crossover.

sounds like healthy competition to me, frankly nowadays plugins are more about refinements and optimizations rather than developing new principles from ground up

Right, it's not that they invented Dynamic EQ..

For instance, before there was Redline EQ,
which albeit less featured in comparison, already had a great and useful implementation of the idea..

And what about the free Phase and Harmonic dist. controls..

TDR claiming that Fabfilter uses them periodically to update their products it's quite unprofessional, if that comment was made from someone from their team; The features like Dynamic Eq and Autogain are very general to claim that they stole something. It's not especific.

In the end of the day, no one is buying something because it was a pioneer, it's because they like it more. So better TDR team have a good release scheme for Nova II if they want to be the winners of this race. I don't doubt their coding and DSP capabilities, which i love it BTW. But Nova never was my go-to digital eq for personal reasons. But the other stuff is amazing. I hope they bring something good to the game

    NO ONE, is saying that!
at best he was annoyed that he didn't get the Q4 as usual

Creamware & TC Elec. had DynEQ in 2000
normal vst soon after that by Sonalksis

Over the years, I've had a stupid amount of conversations whose formula was:

Anyone: "Companies keep pumping out the same plugins, why don't more companies innovate, create something brand new?!"
Me: "What do you think needs to be created?"
    Anyone: "I don't understand..."
Me: "What do you need or want done to your audio that requires a developer to create a brand new tool?"
    Anyone: "... ... that's not the point."

It's funny—a lil bit funny anyway—but it'd be funnier if it wasn't such a regular conversation.

we're running out of old shiny shit to spoil ourselves with, so we're now looking for some new shiny shit.

That's what I read too. I always detected a dry, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor from them in their notes and releases.

to me, it sounded like a little preemptive excuse-making for how much they are going to copy Pro-Q4 in Nova 2. "How would I know they did THAT too? I don't even have a free copy to take ideas from."

Imagine if they merge SlickEQ, all the special filters (including Arbiter) and some sort of AI learning like smart:limit into Limiter 7... A man can dream.

its pretty funny to imagine plugin dev's beefing. they should start dropping diss tracks in the dsp code.

TDR plugins are some of my favorite. I like them more than FF, but i still use FF more lol.

Your's is certainly faster, of that I'm sure, but the rubber eventually degrades and soon needs replacement. We're mostly just poor musicians here and the need to buy anew will take away from our dreams of acoustic treatment for our rooms.

Perhaps I shouldn't have read this post. I did because I thought there may be some "reveal" over a software issue that I should be aware of. Nope, nothing of the, sort.

I don't even see how the quoted text equates to some kind of beef. Just appears to be pragmatically discussing how ideas have been interchanged between the two developers with a strong hint to FabFilter to bung TDR the latest Pro-Q 4.
