I'm gonna give you the secret sauce and you have to promise me that if it works for you, you actually won't let it be a secret.

Here's my steps for a good vocal mix (slight modified to be easier to achieve):

    1. Problem-solving the track (de-essing, any glaring issues, tone shaping)
    2. Vocal riding (I like MAutoVolume but any will work)
    3. 2 compressors in series (slow attack, fast release)
    4. Saturation (I like Kelvin)
    5. Limiting (I like PSP Twin L - between 3 to 6db of reduction, gain compensated) << depends on the track, sometimes not necessary
    6. TDR Arbiter and/or EQ for polish
    7. Effects
Edit: in case you're curious, my actual chain changes step 3 to 2 or 3 parallel compressors going into a soft knee compression. Similar to Michael Brauer but with an extra compressor to glue all parallel signals.

Assuming the performance and recording itself are acceptable, here's a suggestion if you're lazy and your knowledge level is close to zero: Get the Accusonus ERA Bundle 6.2 (free). Put ERA Voice EQ on the track, move the dot until you're happy with the overall sound. Add a compressor and smash your vocals. Add more ERA modules as necessary (denoise, declick, ...)

Remove or cut some of the mid-range instruments and sounds. You've probably got too much going on there. Make some space for those vocals.

let's start with the source, what mic you are using ? where you recorded it ? is it in isolation booth ? or in the control room of a studio ? or in the studio big enough a band can play ? how do you describe the character of the recording ? is it super dry ? or it has some reverb on it ? or slight natural reflection of the room's wall ? what about the noise ? is the recording clean ? can you see the noise floor on the analyzer, how loud is it ? roughly just on your feelings, is the recording bright or dark ? did you properly taken care of the proximity effect in a case where you sang to close to the mic ?

these are few questions you need to answer before a proper suggestion can be given to you. All the tips, tricks and magic in the world depends on it. Also, you need two takes of those vocals, it will almost always turns out better with a real double instead of generated ones.

Not a joke. Record a good voice on an even reasonably decent mic and your problem is probably at least 90% solved. So many times through the years I thought maybe my equipment was just falling apart and then recorded somebody with a good voice and realized none of that was the problem, it's the freaking singer.
