Hello @scguy83, the two commentators here are not even able to form a complete sentence like "I meant the Access virus TI hardware synthesizer", which leads to misunderstandings. Now we have to guess which virus they meant. Just ignore it...!

Out of the two I always choose Viper, because it's so light on the CPU.

A big advantage of OsTirus is that it runs on Mac, too.

It sounds like one and loads the same patches. Viper users always comment that the CPU usage of Viper is lower. Maybe it is, but I can run a decent number of OsTIrus instances simultaneously playing. Also, You can always just bounce and freeze, disable the plugin. At that point I hide the midi track in the DAW arrange window, use the audio on the track, and if I need changes later I can just rebounce that one midi track.

So no, a few extra instances of it would not get me to spend money on a plugin that is so close to one I can use for free. There is no decision for me to make there though, because there is no Mac version of Viper.

The Viper is a clone of the Access - Virus TI, but it sounds a little different to the original Access - Virus TI. The synthesizer is based on Flowstone. With the Viper you can create much deeper sounds than the Virus TI. It sounds quite unique and stands out from other virtual synthesizers.

You can also import your own wavetables. The Viper also has ring modulation (RM), frequency modulation (FM) and a sub-oscillator. Adam Szabo, the manufacturer, is also an excellent and versatile sound designer and you will certainly find presets that you can use in your productions.

The GUI (graphical user interface) is changeable and expandable and in my opinion looks much nicer than the OsTIrus and it is more fun to work with such a modern GUI than the OsTIrus.

Hello internet, many asked this question: does the DSP56300 OsTirus sounds like a real VirusTi or not?
is it the real thing? how does it compare to a real VirusTi? In this video, I'm answering this question.

[REVIEW] Adam Szabo - Viper, a psychedelic producer point of view.

 

I saw this post with excitement and downloaded a couple of LFO TI Soundpacks from the sister site but the files were in .MID format and I couldnt see a way to load or import them in to Viper.

Am I getting the wrong packs?

 

Do you have a purchased Viper? The MIDI import function is only available from version 1.1.

As @Radio says you must have the right version.
I have the 1.2.2 and it's simple to import the .mid files, and I have done that a lot, comparing sounds.
Here is one of my first layouts with just a couple of stock presets, where I put both on one track.
Later I put them on different tracks and used Mcompare to switch.
On a lot of presets they sound almost the same but I did most of that on Osirus before OsTirus came out, so the Ti presets i was using might be lacking some intended settings.
And for performance I show some with all tracks armed vs not armed:

Oh and in case you wonder about the GUIs, yes i resized them all down just for kicks, except the one enlarged Osirus on the top right

Ostirus is not really "Free". Yes technically the emulator is free, but without the rom its not doing much. The rom you can only get legally if you dump the firmware from your actual Virus, or from the Access website, where you have to first register using your Virus serial number. If one gets it through other means its not really legal.

Yes there is sense. Viper can import user waveforms and wavetables. You can also use any waveform for lfo shape. Virus is stuck with the built in waves. Viper can also send out the Arp midi to control other synths. It has resizeable GUI and user skins. It also has a nice shimmer reverb. So, yeah, Viper has some advantages for those people who find that useful ;)

Ah I see, hey it's your money you do with it what you please. Adam seems top have released a great product. Even though the OsTirus is free I'm still gloing to check it out.
