Hi everyone! I’m curious about what inspires or motivates you to start working on a new track.

• Do you set a clear goal before beginning? For example, do you have a specific concept, emotion, or idea in mind?
• What steps do you take before diving in? Do you sketch out an idea, experiment with unusual combinations, or just follow a burst of inspiration?
• Is it more of a spontaneous process for you, or do you approach it methodically?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you approach this first step of the creative process. What drives you, and how do you channel that energy into starting something new?

an interesting chord progression or an interesting lyric, and when you get lucky both of those at the same time.

 

I do sound design from scratch as a relaxing and creative activity, mostly wavetable and FM.
If I stumble on something noteworthy or inovative I will start to build around it.
If not I just get lost in the sound and enjoy myself.

I take the direction of how I'm feeling or how I want to feel.
My skills limitations and how little tools I use always make the music coherant and personal.

It's a pleasant feeling of discovery and how I got rid of impostor syndrome.

 

Passion and new idea, that the feeling is only once a month, that's a shame

Right now this is the main inspirational force behind new projects

Some things are something you can't learn. Some are pure magic and they almost happen by themselves.
But most of it is craftsmanship and requires learning.

It's like building a house, you won't be able to build a house with a YouTube, you'll have to let skilled workers do your work.
I recommend reading more books about making music, mixing and mastering etc.

 

There are many inspirations that spark my creativity to write a new song. The latest has been, as the great captain crunch mentioned, The Friendly Non- Contest here on the forum where the exercise is to write a song based on a piece of art, a foto or a painting (I was imagining an installment based around an historical or a current event). I've been very happy about the songs that I have been churning out participating with fellow members on the thread. Another thing that get me going are special events wherein I'll focus on the participants involved, someone's birthday, a wedding, a joyful or sad incidents in my life, pets...it could be anything really. I once wrote an entire song from the first to the last line, every chord change in real time while tripping on acid in my car at 4 am called Kevlar Slippers. Lots of times just smoking some weed invites my Muse and I'll just play, recording one track and the next like I did with Nana Noodles. Drugs help me a lot!

 

Nothing. I was good at this once. Now everything is shit. I'll probably become an interior designer or some gay shit like that. Good luck. Remember me.
