    Hi!
I've been reading and I'm not sure if it's possible to run Windows VST3 on a Mac (M1 Monterey)...because it seems that it only supports VST
I need to use some Cherry Audio synthesizers and I've seen that they are on the sister site but for PC and in VST3 format
I would like to know if they could be used on a Mac, and if so, what method/programs do you recommend I use.
Thank you very much in advance

No, you're not gonna do that to any real high satisfaction. I mean, depending on your system etc, you 'can' or could with crossgrider or host vm's and different things and whatnot... but on arm macOS? I wouldn't. or certainly not for some Cherry Audio synths... If you 'need' some Cherry Audio synthesizers, either buy them, or most of them have as good or better substitutes (haven't tried their newest but everything else I have tried anyways... or I'd pay the $40 other then dealing with some nightmare setup)...

but @clone does this in mixing, or situations in which latency is not of utmost importance, and he does just fine with it... (edit add: but using the venerable and beloved 5,1 systems) so I'll shut up, and also not gonna give a hard no, as he knows what he is doing... but what he is using is different, and what he is doing is slightly different in many regards...

read this thread from yesterday to get a better understanding:

Thank you very much for your answer
But....there's no vst replacements for these synths emulated by Cherry Audio: ARP Quadra, ARP Pro Soloist, Rhodes Chroma, MemoryMoog
Buying them from where I live is a fortune, because now the dollar here is very very high
On the other hand, I am a musician, I don't understand anything about cr@cks, only how to install them with the included instructions. So I understand little to nothing of what you are telling me....sorry, but thank you very much for your time anyway
    best regards!

True, for the most part... But most of those have really well scripted Kontakt library versions however, and for that kinda sound, GForce's synths are top notch, and work with Tom Oberheim himself on their offerings... Also U-he makes stuff well in that area (Diva, Repro etc) , and of course Arturia has a lot of it's friends (although they usually aren't my first go to...)... Korg has a bunch of great stuff in the neighborhood...

And personally, having played a real Quadra and MemoryMoog, I would honestly rather use other ARP products, and the MemoryMoog was a futzy pita... I would rather just use a polyphonic minimoog emu, of which there are plenty...

I don't know if there is a reason you need those specific ones or you are searching for a 'type' of sound, but I have had no shortage of inspirational and great emulations of stuff in that ballpark on macOS at all.... I have a few Cherry Audio products, and to be honest, I don't use them much in comparison to what I consider better sounding products out there... (but of course that is subjective! ;)).

The long and short of it is yes and no. Mac does run VST and VST3, though these need to be native Mac versions in order to run and are not the same as Windows VST/VST3. If you want to run windows files you will need to do this via one of the virtual desktop tools such as Parallels or make a Windows partition on your Mac using bootcamp or similar tool. Essentially you would be running the plugin in the windows environment whilst on your Mac, though this has limitations and is nowhere near as efficient as running the plugin natively. As the first response stated, I think then you could route audio using Crossgridder (though not something I have tried myself) from your virtual environment into one of your Mac applications.

Is it possible to run some 32-bit VSTs like Variety Of Sounds stuff without much hassle?

My suggestion is not worth the hassle, but what you could do:

1)Have windows run in a virtual machine like parallels.

2)Install the daw you use there as well or have some plugin host run the vst (or even better: The vst you want to run has a standalone version)

3)Now use some midi over ethernet tool to send midi from your mac side daw to the plugin in the parallels vm. rtpmidi might do the job.
those guys here mention bome would have a similar tool?
    https://www.reddit.com/r/audioengineering/comments/ptn3s5/midi_from_pc_to_mac_over_network/

4)then feed back the sound from parallels to your daw via a virtual audio cable.

5)keep in mind that you might have to do something about the timing, the vm and the routing adds latency, you have to compensate for that.

This is an absolute desperation attempt that would take horrible amounts of time, frustration and hassle but it might (?) work.
I guess it is easier to make other plugins create the exact sound you need.

Using AudioGridder on Win 11 arm in Parallels Desktop works fine, latency is compensated automatically, the GUI is captured and displayed in the Mac plugin and is editable with mouse and keyboard.

I never got CrossGridder to work, but with Win 11 and Parallels Desktop (nearly) everything is fine. Logic Pro (native) sometimes crashes when you try to open the AudioGridder client plugin. And it crashes always if AudioGridder is the first plugin you try to open. It has something to do with how Logic (native) handles plugins running in a different process than the main app and some issues with the JUCE framework. It doesn't happen under Rosetta or other DAWs, just Logic native.

First of all, any physical analog synthesizer or one with analog filters (for example, Korg DW8000) sounds far better than a vst. But I don't want to use those vsts for the sound quality, but because they are synthesizers that offer specific features and certain configurations that other synthesizers don't have.
    Thank you for your answer

There was a list compiled of plugins known to work in Crossover/Audiogridder/Crossgridder, and ones that would not. I didn't make the list, and it has not been updated in awhile. This is what Cherry plugins were reported as working, but it is most likely missing some newer ones by now. If something doesn't work, don't ask me. I am not using any of their plugins. Testing was done on an intel Mac.

Many of the Cherry r2r releases are listed as working, but with this note:

There are some plugins from some vendors, like Cherry Audio, and more, that when installing give an “Out of memory” error, and installing again and again… at last they install! Quitting Crossover and opening it again sometime helps.
