It's absolutely about workflow. Having each slice inside it's own sampler instance being triggered by Midi means you can do anything you want with each hit. All you are talking about is making it sound like you are using an Akai. Are you still using hardware samplers?

There is really no genre-specific hardware (or software). For every one person who loves the time stretch sound of an Amen break from an Akai, another 100 will use an S1000 to make hiphop. Sometimes the best results come from using stuff for the things it wasn't meant to do. You see a bridge and it looks nice to drive your car over. Blixa Bargeld sees a bass drum.
